As Ramadan approaches, the Kingdom is preparing to provide 50 million liters of Zamzam water daily to the Two Holy Mosques, with a strategic reserve of more than 2.2 million bottles to serve the pilgrims.

With the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, which sees millions of pilgrims and visitors flocking to the Two Holy Mosques, the National Water Company, the official operator of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Water Project, has announced that it has raised its operational readiness to the highest level. These intensive preparations are aimed at ensuring the easy and convenient provision of blessed Zamzam water to pilgrims and meeting the increased demand during this holy month.

Zamzam Well: A history of blessing spanning thousands of years

Zamzam water holds immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It is not merely water, but a symbol of faith, blessing, and healing. The history of the Zamzam well dates back thousands of years, specifically to the story of Hagar and her son Ishmael (peace be upon them), when water gushed forth from beneath the infant's feet by God's command in a barren valley. Since then, its blessed spring has never run dry, quenching the thirst of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors throughout the ages, bearing witness to the Creator's greatness and His care for His Sacred House.

A comprehensive operational plan to serve the pilgrims

In anticipation of Ramadan season 1447 AH, the National Water Company developed a well-structured plan to ensure the continuity of supply and quality of service. The most prominent features of the plan include the following:

  • A huge strategic stockpile: A stockpile exceeding 2.2 million bottles of blessed Zamzam water has been secured to meet immediate and increasing demand.
  • Million-liter supplies for the Two Holy Mosques: Water is pumped to the Grand Mosque around the clock, with supplies exceeding 50 million liters per day secured for the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, via safe and healthy transport mechanisms.
  • Huge production capacity: The project operates with a daily production capacity of up to 200,000 five-liter bottles, to ensure their availability at approved points of sale.
  • Extensive distribution network: Distribution is carried out through the project's headquarters and more than 750 authorized and strategically distributed sales outlets in various regions of the Kingdom to facilitate access to them.

Highest quality standards: state-of-the-art technology and rigorous quality control

The Zamzam water distribution system is managed using the latest global technologies to ensure the purity and safety of the water. Production processes are fully automated, from drawing water from the well, through purification and sterilization, to final bottling and packaging, all without any human intervention. To guarantee the highest quality standards, the project's advanced laboratories conduct more than 400 precise laboratory tests daily to ensure the safety of the water's chemical and physical properties before it reaches the pilgrims.

Strategic importance and efforts reflect the Kingdom's leadership

These efforts go beyond simply providing a service, reflecting the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, which represents a fundamental pillar in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Securing Zamzam water on this scale and with this efficiency has a significant positive impact on the experience of millions of Muslims from around the world, providing them with reassurance and spiritual comfort, and confirming the Kingdom’s commitment to harnessing all capabilities to serve Islam and Muslims.
