Zamalek took sole possession of the top spot in the Egyptian Premier League standings after defeating Pyramids 1-0 in their match on Sunday evening.

The match took place as part of the twentieth round of the local competition, where Zamalek succeeded in securing the three points for themselves and breaking the tie at the top of the standings.

Zamalek owes this victory to its defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid, who scored the only goal of the match from a penalty kick that he successfully executed in the 60th minute of the match.

With this result, Zamalek's tally rose to 40 points, placing them in first place alone, widening the gap to three points with their closest pursuers in the competition table.

Pyramids comes in second place, followed by Al Ahly in third place, and then Ceramica Cleopatra in fourth place, as these teams are tied in points behind the leader.

It is worth noting that the current season of the Egyptian League is held under a system that includes a first round, followed by a competition between the top seven clubs in the standings to compete for the title.
