The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its pivotal efforts in facilitating the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Yemen, affirming that the Kingdom is among the leading donor countries supporting the Yemeni people in their current crisis. This praise comes as the Kingdom, through its humanitarian arms, continues to provide logistical and material support to ensure that aid reaches those in need across various Yemeni governorates.
Saudi Arabia's role in alleviating human suffering
The organization's representative explained in a press statement that the facilities provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia play a crucial role in ensuring the continued flow of aid. He noted that protecting aid workers and securing safe passage for them is an international responsibility in which the Kingdom actively participates. He added that displaced people in Yemen face compounded health and living challenges, making ongoing Saudi support a cornerstone of the country's health and relief system.
King Salman Center continues its work in Hadramawt
In a related development, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to implement its ambitious programs, announcing the distribution of more than 27,000 food baskets targeting the most vulnerable and needy families in the Wadi and Desert districts of Hadramawt Governorate. This aid is part of the Emergency Food Intervention Project, which aims to bridge the food gap and provide food security for thousands of Yemenis.
A historical context of ongoing support
This support is not a one-off event, but rather an extension of a long history of Saudi Arabia's support for Yemen. Since the outbreak of the crisis, the Kingdom has been at the forefront of donor countries to the UN's humanitarian response plans in Yemen, providing billions of dollars to support the Central Bank of Yemen and fund infrastructure, education, and health projects. Through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, the Kingdom is pursuing a dual strategy encompassing both immediate relief and sustainable development.
The importance of aid and its regional impact
This aid is of paramount importance given the fragile economic situation in Yemen and the collapse of the local currency, which has led to skyrocketing food prices. Direct Saudi intervention and the facilitation of aid delivery through land, sea, and air ports are helping to prevent widespread famine. The current distribution project in Hadramawt alone is benefiting some 190,400 individuals, reflecting the significant positive impact of these initiatives on social and security stability in the liberated areas.
These moves confirm the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to supporting Yemeni legitimacy not only politically and militarily, but also in humanitarian and developmental ways, to ensure a decent life for the brotherly Yemeni people until this crisis is overcome.
