Find out the details of today's weather forecast in Saudi Arabia. The National Center for Meteorology predicts thunderstorms, strong winds causing dust storms, and reduced visibility in several regions.

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia has released details of the expected weather conditions for today, Sunday, indicating that the unstable weather conditions currently affecting most regions of the Kingdom will continue. This report is part of the center's ongoing monitoring of the weather situation, and it warns of strong surface winds and the formation of thunderstorms that could disrupt daily life and traffic on highways.

Wind and dust activity in the north

The meteorological statement indicated that the northern regions of the Kingdom will be affected by active winds stirring up dust and sand. This includes parts of the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and Northern Borders regions. These winds are expected to reduce horizontal visibility, potentially reaching near-zero visibility in some open areas, necessitating caution from drivers and travelers on highways. The report also noted the possibility of light rain in scattered areas of these regions, adding another factor to consider while traveling.

Thunderstorms and rain across wide areas

In a related development, the weather forecast continues to predict widespread thunderstorms accompanied by active winds, encompassing the highlands, central regions, and eastern areas. The center has identified Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah as the regions most likely to experience this weather pattern, with forecasts extending to parts of the Riyadh and Eastern Provinces. Rainfall intensity will range from light to moderate, with the possibility of heavy downpours in localized areas, potentially leading to flash flooding in some wadis and valleys.

Fog and sea conditions

The report also warned of the possibility of fog forming during the early morning and late night hours, affecting parts of the Hail, Qassim, and Medina regions, in addition to the previously mentioned rainy areas. Regarding sea conditions, the report detailed wave and wind patterns as follows:

  • The Red Sea: It is experiencing northerly to northwesterly winds in the northern and central parts, and southeasterly winds that turn to southerly in the southern part, with speeds that may reach 50 km/h with thunderstorms, making the waves turbulent in the south.
  • The Arabian Gulf: The winds are characterized by fluctuation between southeasterly and southerly, turning to northwesterly in the evening, with waves that may exceed two meters in the event of thunderstorms, which requires caution for seafarers and fishermen.

The importance of caution

These weather forecasts are crucial in guiding the public to take necessary precautions. Experts consistently advise against speeding on roads during such weather conditions, recommend staying away from floodplains and valleys in rainy areas, and staying updated by official authorities to ensure public safety.
