The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued its daily report on weather conditions for this Thursday, as the Meteorology Department warned citizens and residents in several regions of weather fluctuations ranging from fog formation to reduced horizontal visibility due to dust storms.
Weather details for the southern regions
Early morning hours, from 2:00 AM to 8:00 AM, saw the formation of light fog over large parts of the Asir and Jazan regions. This weather phenomenon is common at this time of year, especially in mountainous and coastal areas with geographical features conducive to water vapor condensation.
The alert in the Asir region included the following cities and governorates: Abha, Khamis Mushait, Al-Namas, Balqarn, and Tanomah. In the Jazan region, the alert extended to Abu Arish, Ahad Al Masarihah, Al Tuwal, Al Fatihah, Samtah, Sabya, Damad, Al Harth, Al Dayer, Al Reeth, Al Aridhah, Al Eidabi, Fifa, and Haroub. The meteorological department warned that the accompanying effects would include a reduction in horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers, necessitating caution while driving on highways and in mountainous areas.
Eastern Region: Active winds and raised dust
In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology warned of a different weather pattern affecting the Eastern Province, where active winds will stir up dust and sand. This phenomenon will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 3:00 PM in the governorates of Khafji, Nairyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya, while in Hafr Al-Batin it will extend until 6:00 PM.
These strong winds are causing reduced horizontal visibility, which could affect land transportation and travel between these governorates. These fluctuations are a result of the temperature and atmospheric pressure differences that the region experiences during the transitional periods between seasons.
The importance of adhering to safety instructions
This report is of paramount importance due to its direct impact on public safety. Relevant authorities, including Civil Defense and Traffic Police, urge drivers to exercise extreme caution. In foggy conditions, the use of fog lights and avoiding excessive speed are advised, while in dusty conditions, those with respiratory illnesses and asthma should avoid direct exposure to open air.
This accurate monitoring by the National Center for Meteorology reflects the significant development in the Kingdom’s early warning system, which aims to protect lives and property by providing accurate and up-to-date information on weather conditions, helping vital sectors and individuals to plan their day and avoid potential risks.
