Wafra for Industry and Development announced the start of commercial operation of its pasta and noodle production lines in January 2026. Learn about the reasons for the delay and details of the partnership with the Italian company Pavan.

Wafra for Industry and Development, a leading food manufacturing company in Saudi Arabia, has announced that its new spaghetti and noodle production lines are scheduled to begin commercial operations in January 2026. This announcement marks a significant step in the company's efforts to enhance its production capacity and meet the growing demand in the local market.

Details of the delay and expected financial impact

The company explained in its statement that the delay in the previously anticipated start-up date was due to several technical and logistical factors beyond its control. The main reasons included the delayed delivery of the electrical transformers necessary to complete the on-site electrical work, as well as delays in finalizing the production line programming. The company also noted that the delayed arrival of specialized engineers from the manufacturer to conduct testing of the filling lines and train the staff contributed to the postponement. Wafra indicated that the financial impact of this expansion is expected to be reflected in the financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.

Strategic partnership with the Italian company "Pavan"

The roots of this project date back to November 22, 2022, when the company announced on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) the signing of a strategic contract with the Italian company Pavan, owned by the German giant GEA Group. This contract aims to supply the latest global technologies in the pasta and noodle industry, as part of a comprehensive plan adopted by Wafra to modernize and automate production lines in its factories, thereby ensuring increased operational efficiency and improved product quality.

Enhancing food security and keeping pace with Vision 2030

This project holds particular importance within the context of the Saudi national economy, as it aligns with the objectives of Vision 2030, which focuses heavily on achieving food security and self-sufficiency in essential commodities. The pastry and pasta industry is a vital sector experiencing continuous growth in the Kingdom and the region, driven by evolving consumption patterns and population growth.

By localizing these industries using advanced technology, "Wafra" contributes to reducing reliance on imports and enhancing local content. The move towards industrial automation also reflects the commitment of Saudi companies to adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to boost competitiveness, not only domestically but also to open export opportunities to neighboring regional markets, thus strengthening the Kingdom's position as a regional industrial and logistics hub.
