Multiple media outlets reported hearing a series of loud explosions in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday evening. The nature and source of the explosions were not immediately clear. AFP correspondents confirmed hearing the sounds throughout the city, but no official statement providing full details of the incident was immediately available.
According to initial reports from the field, at least three explosions rocked the capital. More precisely, the Iranian news agency ISNA reported that the explosions were concentrated primarily in areas east of Tehran, as well as in the northeastern parts of the city, indicating that several explosions occurred in those areas.
These rapid security developments come on the second day of what sources described as an attack targeting sites inside Iranian territory. The security situation remains under investigation to determine the extent of the potential damage or the precise causes behind the series of explosions that rocked the capital.
