The Imam Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority recorded 21 violations, including lighting fires and unauthorized camping, as part of efforts to protect biodiversity in accordance with Vision 2030.

Strict application of environmental regulations

As part of ongoing efforts to preserve natural resources and biodiversity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority announced the detection of 21 diverse environmental violations within its geographical boundaries. The Authority explained that its environmental monitoring teams identified these violations, which pose a direct threat to the region's sensitive ecosystems.

The violations were distributed across two main areas within the reserve. Twelve violations were recorded in Rawdat Khuraim, most of which involved camping in unauthorized areas, impacting the natural vegetation. Nine other violations were recorded in the Kasr Al-Muzayni' area, including more serious practices such as lighting fires in prohibited locations and driving vehicles into protected meadows and desert areas. These actions cause significant damage to the soil and vegetation and increase the risk of forest fires.

Royal reserves and Saudi Vision 2030

These measures are part of a broader national strategy aimed at protecting and developing the environment, a key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Royal reserves were established by royal decree in 2018 to preserve ecological balance and restore biodiversity across vast geographical areas of the Kingdom. The Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve, encompassing Rawdat Khuraim and Al-Tanhat, is among the most important natural sites in the central region, distinguished by its unique plant and animal diversity, making its protection a top priority.

Environmental importance and future impact

Preserving nature reserves is not limited to protecting plants and animals; its impact extends to improving air quality, combating desertification, and enhancing water resources. These efforts also directly support major national initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant billions of trees and rehabilitate vast areas of degraded land. Strictly enforcing environmental regulations ensures the sustainability of these natural resources for future generations and opens new horizons for responsible ecotourism, which contributes to diversifying the national economy without harming the environment.

The authority confirmed that it is working in full coordination with the relevant security and environmental authorities to apply the penalties stipulated in the Environmental Law and its executive regulations against violators, stressing that community awareness and adherence to instructions are the first line of defense to protect our natural treasures and ensure their sustainability.
