The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced the registration of 6,066 Umrah agents for the year 1447 AH, with Egypt topping the list with 935 agents, reflecting the Kingdom’s efforts to facilitate the pilgrims’ journey.

The latest statistics released by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reveal that 6,066 authorized agents for Umrah services for the year 1447 AH. This reflects the significant expansion of services provided to pilgrims and the increasing global demand for performing the rituals. These figures coincide with record numbers of Umrah pilgrims, reaching approximately 904,000 in the first few days of Ramadan, underscoring the high level of operational readiness and the well-structured organizational plans overseen by the relevant authorities in the Kingdom.

General context and the Kingdom's efforts within Vision 2030

This increase in the number of accredited agents falls within the broader framework of Saudi Arabia's efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 2030 , which aims to increase the capacity to receive pilgrims and facilitate their spiritual journey. Historically, the management of Hajj and Umrah has undergone numerous developmental phases, but the last decade has witnessed an unprecedented digital transformation, exemplified by the launch of electronic platforms such as "Nusk." These platforms have made it easier for agents and those wishing to perform Umrah from around the world to complete their procedures smoothly and transparently, from obtaining visas to booking integrated service packages including accommodation and transportation.

Egypt, Pakistan and Algeria top the list

The data revealed a clear advantage for some countries in the number of accredited agents, reflecting the high demand for Umrah services from their markets. Egypt ranked first globally with 935 agents, accounting for the largest share of the total. This is attributed to its high population density and the deep religious and cultural ties that bind the Egyptian people to the holy sites. Pakistan in second place with 540 agents, and Algeria came in third with 520, a clear indication of the growing number of Umrah pilgrims coming from North African and South Asian countries.

Importance and expected impact at the regional and international levels

Expanding the network of accredited agents not only facilitates the Umrah pilgrimage but also has significant economic and diplomatic implications. Domestically, this growth contributes to strengthening the religious tourism sector, a key pillar of Saudi Arabia's economic diversification. Internationally, a broad and well-organized network of agents reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader in the Islamic world and ensures the provision of consistent, high-quality services to pilgrims, regardless of their nationality. The inclusion of Yemen (413 agents) and Sudan (407 agents) among the top five countries underscores the continued demand for Umrah, even from countries facing challenges, highlighting the profound spiritual significance of this ritual for Muslims everywhere.
