The Umm Al-Qura University Electronic Quran Recitation Center achieved a global milestone in 2025 by providing 3,424 hours of educational instruction to 15,000 students from 88 countries, reinforcing the Kingdom’s role in serving the Holy Quran.

The Umm Al-Qura University online Quran recitation center achieved a significant milestone and a remarkable global presence in 2025, solidifying its position as a leading center for teaching the Holy Quran and correcting its recitation according to the highest standards of quality and proficiency. This achievement is made possible through an integrated technological educational system that allows beneficiaries worldwide to access a select group of specialists in Quranic readings and recitation, thus transcending the barriers of time and place.

Global statistics reflect the scale of the achievement

Official statistics released by the university revealed that the online Quran recitation services have reached 15,201 students, representing a wide geographical diversity spanning 88 countries across six continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and Australia. This broad reach reflects the growing international confidence in the educational outcomes of Umm Al-Qura University, headquartered in the birthplace of revelation, Mecca, thus lending significant moral and academic value to its Quranic programs.

Educational expertise and advanced technologies

To ensure the quality of the educational process, the Quran recitation center was supervised by 80 highly qualified and experienced teachers, both male and female, who dedicated themselves tirelessly to providing 3,424 hours of instruction throughout the year. A total of 23,229 pages were read and corrected via the platform, highlighting the significant effort invested in the care of the Holy Quran.

The Quranic recitation center relies on the latest distance learning technologies, which allow for direct interaction and immediate correction of recitation, thus mimicking traditional memorization circles but in a flexible virtual environment that suits the different schedules of beneficiaries around the world.

Historical dimension and strategic impact

Umm Al-Qura University's role extends beyond the academic sphere to include preserving the Islamic heritage of Quranic education through unbroken chains of transmission (isnad). This Quranic recitation center represents a modern continuation of a long history of Quranic instruction at the Two Holy Mosques. This initiative is of strategic importance as it provides reliable education for Muslims in non-Arabic speaking countries, who often face difficulty finding qualified teachers of Tajweed (the rules of Quranic recitation).

In line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030

Commenting on these indicators, Dr. Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Dean of the College of Da'wah and Fundamentals of Religion at Umm Al-Qura University, explained that the success of the Quranic recitation program reflects the university's pioneering role in disseminating Quranic sciences according to a well-established scientific methodology. He emphasized that utilizing digital transformation in the service of Islamic sciences ensures accuracy and high-quality output.

This scientific and technological initiative aligns with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, and strengthening the Kingdom's Arab and Islamic identity. The Quran Recitation Center serves as a prime example of harnessing technology to serve Islam, enhancing the Kingdom's soft power and underscoring its pivotal role in serving Muslims worldwide.
