Riyadh Art, a major project of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, has announced details of the seventh edition of the Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium 2026, one of the most important international platforms specializing in sculpture in the region. The symposium is scheduled to take place from January 12 to February 22, 2026, on Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Road (Al-Tahlia) as the stage for live artistic creation.

Cultural context and ambitious vision

The organization of this forum is an integral part of the unprecedented cultural and artistic movement taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the umbrella of Vision 2030, which aims to transform Riyadh into an open-air art gallery blending tradition and modernity. The forum takes its name from Jabal Tuwaiq, a mountain symbolizing high aspirations and determination, reflecting the Kingdom's desire to solidify its position as a global destination for arts and culture. Through these initiatives, the Riyadh Art Program contributes to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors, and to adding a humanistic aesthetic to the urban fabric of the capital.

The slogan "Features of What Will Be" and details of the seventh edition

Under the theme “Glimpses of What Will Be,” the 2026 edition will feature a select group of 25 artists from 18 different countries, including talented Saudi artists. This year’s theme focuses on exploring the concept of transformation as an intellectual and physical process reflecting rapid urban changes. The artists will work live in front of the public in a “live sculpture” experience, offering visitors a rare opportunity to witness the creation of artworks from raw materials to their final form, in a dynamic interaction that breaks down barriers between artist and viewer.

Materials used and environmental dimension

In keeping with its commitment to environmental sustainability, the forum's artistic tracks rely on the use of local and recycled materials. The forum comprises two main tracks: the first focuses on the use of solid Saudi granite with the potential for incorporating stainless steel, while the second focuses specifically on recycled metals. This approach not only showcases the beauty of the Kingdom's natural stones but also sends a powerful message about the importance of recycling and eco-friendly art.

Site symbolism and lasting impact

The choice of Al-Tahlia Road as the venue for the forum carries profound historical and conceptual significance. Its connection to the first desalination plant in Riyadh makes it a symbol of transformation and life, perfectly aligned with the forum's theme. This edition is expected to leave a lasting artistic legacy, as all the completed works (characterized by their large scale) will be added to the permanent Riyadh Art Collection and subsequently displayed in prominent locations and public squares throughout the capital, continuing to inspire future generations.

It is worth mentioning that the Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium, since its inception in 2019, has succeeded in attracting more than 150 international artists and has resulted in the production of more than 150 works of art, which has strengthened its position as a bridge for cultural communication and a platform for artistic dialogue between different cultures.
