Advisor Turki Al-Sheikh visits the studios of the film Khalid bin Al-Walid, the largest historical production in Saudi Arabia, reviewing the preparations aimed at presenting a global cinematic work.

In a move reflecting the great importance Saudi Arabia places on the film industry, His Excellency Turki bin Abdulmohsen Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), conducted an inspection visit to Al-Hosn Big Time Studios and Qiddiya Studios. The visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the progress and preparations underway for the monumental historical film about the life of the esteemed companion of the Prophet and renowned military commander, Khalid ibn al-Walid (may God be pleased with him).

Historical background and importance of the figure

Khalid ibn al-Walid, whom the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) called "The Drawn Sword of God," is considered one of the most prominent military leaders in Islamic and world history. He was renowned for his tactical genius and his ability to lead armies in the most difficult battles, never suffering a defeat. He played a pivotal role in the Ridda Wars and the unification of the Arabian Peninsula under the banner of Islam, before leading the Islamic conquests in Persia and the Levant, achieving decisive victories in major battles such as Yarmouk and Walaja. Producing a film about this figure presents a significant artistic and production challenge, but it holds immense cultural and historical importance in introducing his life story to new generations and a global audience.

Mass production details and a global vision

This project, sponsored by the General Entertainment Authority and Riyadh Season, comes after more than a year of intensive preparations. During his visit, His Excellency Advisor Al-Sheikh reviewed the prototypes of the historical environments and the meticulous artistic designs encompassing architecture, costumes, and weapons, all aimed at ensuring the highest levels of historical and aesthetic accuracy. He also inspected the preparations for the extensive battle scenes and the development of the combat sequences, which will be a key element of the film. His Excellency met with the creative and artistic teams, emphasizing the need to deliver a world-class cinematic experience befitting the value of this project and the importance of the figure it portrays.

Expected impact on the cultural and cinematic landscape

The significance of the film “Khalid ibn al-Walid” extends beyond its artistic merit; it represents a turning point for the Saudi and Arab film industry. Locally, the project contributes to developing the Kingdom’s cinematic infrastructure, providing opportunities for local talent, and enhancing Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional hub for media production, in line with the goals of Vision 2030. Regionally, the film raises the bar for the quality of Arab historical productions and sets a new standard of professionalism in this genre. Internationally, the film is expected to present the Arab and Islamic narrative of this important historical period to a global audience, contributing to building bridges of cultural understanding and reflecting the rapid development of the entertainment sector in the Kingdom.
