Learn about the efforts of the Transport Authority in ensuring the sustainability of supply chains in Saudi Arabia through an integrated logistics system, including sea, air and rail transport at fixed and sustainable prices.

The Saudi Public Transport Authority has announced the activation of a comprehensive and integrated logistics system across all of the Kingdom's ports of entry. This strategic step aims to ensure the sustainability of supply chains and the uninterrupted flow of goods. The system relies on broad support from over 3,000 licensed companies, in addition to providing alternative shipping routes that meet the needs of the local and regional markets.

These moves come amid a global context marked by ongoing challenges to international trade. Recently, the world has witnessed sharp fluctuations in maritime traffic due to geopolitical tensions in the Red Sea region and vital waterways, forcing many ships to alter their routes. In this context, Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 has emerged as a protective shield, with the Kingdom investing early on in developing its infrastructure and transforming its strategic geographic location, connecting three continents, into a global logistics hub capable of absorbing economic shocks and securing the flow of global trade.

Strategic steps to ensure the sustainability of supply chains

The authority explained that the “Licensing Directory” now includes thousands of companies accredited in the freight transport sector, enhancing reliability and transparency and facilitating access to service providers for beneficiaries. Furthermore, the “Logistics” digital platform now allows beneficiaries to clearly define cargo types, streamlining contracting processes and accelerating logistics operations both locally and regionally. The authority affirmed the availability of sufficient capacity for the land transport fleet between Red Sea ports and various regions, with real-time monitoring of affected shipments in coordination with relevant authorities to prevent any disruptions.

Economic impact and regional and international credibility

This event is of paramount importance and will have a wide-ranging positive impact on several levels. Domestically, the stable flow of goods ensures that markets are protected from supply shortages or sudden price spikes. Regionally and internationally, the activation of transit services within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the prioritization of food and pharmaceutical shipments under the "Two-Hour Clearance" initiative reinforce the Kingdom's position as a secure and reliable trade corridor. On the customs front, import and export processes have been fully automated through the "Fasah" platform, expediting release procedures and prepayment before shipments arrive.

Air freight stability and strategic alternatives

For its part, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) noted the complete stability of air cargo facilities, with expedited permits for charter flights and the provision of additional slots to accommodate any potential increases. Relevant authorities also discussed activating strategic alternatives, including flight rescheduling and utilizing Saudi airports as alternative hubs to enhance operational flexibility in the face of global challenges.

Alternative sea routes and fixed-price trains

Reports revealed the readiness of Red Sea ports with a massive capacity exceeding 60 weekly shipping services. These ports have adopted alternative maritime routes around the Cape of Good Hope to reach the west coast, ensuring the flow of goods through Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdullah Port, and Yanbu Commercial Port. In culminating these integrated efforts, the Saudi Railways Company (SAR) confirmed its full readiness to transport goods at high capacity to the capital, the Eastern Province, and the north, while maintaining stable rail fares. This makes rail transport a sustainable option that alleviates pressure on road trucks and supports the national economy.
