In a technologically advanced move aimed at revolutionizing the land travel experience, authorities have launched a new "Spatial Verification" service, allowing travelers to complete their biometric fingerprinting digitally via their smartphones upon entering the King Fahd Causeway. This step eliminates the need for traditional fingerprint scanners at passport control booths, directly contributing to faster crossing times and reduced congestion.
How the location verification service works
The new mechanism relies on direct and secure digital connectivity technologies, allowing the traveler to complete the process in simple steps:
- Accessing the unified "Nafath" application.
- Go to Settings and select the "Access Devices" service.
- Switch to the “Spatial Verification” option to start the process before reaching the relevant employee.
This service requires activating the Bluetooth feature on the mobile phone to ensure a secure technical connection between the beneficiary’s device and the port’s operating systems, allowing for automatic identification of the traveler’s identity and geographical location with high accuracy within the customs area.

The system begins performing the biometric matching as soon as the traveler presses the start icon within the application. The identity verification and data processing process takes place in a few seconds while the traveler is inside his vehicle and without the need to leave it or stop for a long time, thus eliminating the need to repeatedly place fingers on traditional scanning devices.
King Fahd Causeway: A vital artery and high traffic density
This service is of strategic importance given the King Fahd Causeway's status as one of the most important land crossings in the Middle East. Since its opening in 1986, the bridge has served as a vital link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, witnessing the passage of millions of travelers annually. During holidays and peak seasons, the number of crossings reaches record highs, sometimes exceeding 100,000 travelers daily. Therefore, any improvement in processing times will positively impact traffic flow and reduce the long waiting times that have been a challenge during peak hours.
Digital transformation and Vision 2030
This initiative is part of the Kingdom's comprehensive digital transformation strategy under Vision 2030, which aims to automate government services and enhance operational efficiency. The "Nafath" application is a cornerstone of this digital infrastructure, providing secure solutions for verifying the digital identity of citizens and residents.

This transformation reflects the integration of Saudi government services and its commitment to enhancing the user experience by replacing cumbersome physical procedures with secure and efficient technological solutions. Travelers are advised to begin the verification process immediately upon entering the port gate to save time, ensuring their data is readily available on passport control screens the moment their vehicle reaches the final crossing point, thus streamlining and improving the overall travel experience.
