The Minister of Information announced the launch of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Center for Media Studies and Opinion Polls, with the aim of supporting decision-making and developing media policies in accordance with Vision 2030.

In a strategic move aimed at developing the media landscape in Saudi Arabia, Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossari announced the launch of the Saudi Press Agency's (SPA) Center for Media Studies and Opinion Polls . This announcement, made during the Saudi Media Forum, underscores the Kingdom's commitment to developing its media policies based on scientific principles and accurate data.

General context and historical background

The launch of the center comes at a time when the media sector is undergoing radical transformations globally, driven by the digital revolution and the growing role of social media. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) was established in 1971 as the official media arm of the state, and for decades focused on disseminating official news and covering national events. The launch of this research center represents a qualitative leap in SPA's role, moving it from being merely a news transmitter to a knowledge producer and data analyst. This reflects an evolution in Saudi media thinking that aligns with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 , which is based on transparency and evidence-based decision-making.

The importance of the event and its expected impact

The center is expected to play a pivotal role on several levels. Domestically , it will provide reliable data and in-depth analysis to decision-makers in both the public and private sectors, helping to formulate more effective media policies and develop media content that meets the aspirations of the Saudi public. It will also support local media institutions, academics, and researchers with accurate data on public opinion trends and content consumption patterns. Regionally , the center aspires to become a leading authority on media studies in the Middle East, reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a thought leader in this field. Internationally , it will contribute to presenting a clearer and more accurate picture of Saudi society and its trends, challenging stereotypes through scientific data and opinion polls.

Initiatives within the Saudi Media Forum

This announcement was part of a package of 12 initiatives unveiled during the Saudi Media Forum 2024, held under the theme “Media in a Changing World” and under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The forum saw wide participation from over 300 media experts and leaders from around the world, in addition to the Future of Media Exhibition (FOMEX), which attracted more than 250 local and international companies. Among the other key initiatives launched was the Saudi Media Innovation Camp (SaudiMB), which aims to support young talent and stimulate innovation in the media industry.
