The Speaker of the Shura Council received the Governor of the Digital Government Authority in Riyadh to discuss ways to enhance digital transformation and develop legislation to serve the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and its international standing.

His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, received today at the Council's headquarters in Riyadh, His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Engineer Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Suwayan. This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation between the legislative authority and executive bodies to support the digital transformation process underway in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Strengthening the legislative role to support the digital economy

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Shura Council emphasized the pivotal role the Council plays in studying and discussing regulations and bylaws related to the technology sector. He noted that the Council pays close attention to monitoring annual reports and performance indicators related to government entities, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of government performance and ensuring its alignment with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places digital transformation as a fundamental pillar for diversifying the economy and improving the quality of life.

National context: Qualitative leaps in digital government

This meeting is particularly important given the technological boom the Kingdom is experiencing, as the Digital Government Authority is the competent body for all matters related to digital government and the national reference point in this field. Since its establishment, the Authority has worked to regulate digital government operations, platforms, networks, and digital government services, contributing to the automation of procedures and increasing the efficiency of government spending.

For his part, His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Engineer Ahmed Al-Sowayan, commended the significant support provided by the Shura Council through enacting and updating legislation that enables digital transformation. Al-Sowayan emphasized that this integration between the legislative and executive branches has directly contributed to the Kingdom's remarkable international successes, particularly in the United Nations' e-government development indicators and internet governance, thus enhancing the Kingdom's global competitiveness.

The meeting included a review of several topics of common interest, and a discussion of ways to develop digital government services to ensure their sustainability and reliability, in order to serve citizens, residents and the business sector.
