Learn about the achievements of the virtual health hospital in Saudi Arabia, where it provided 121,000 specialized services including cardiology, oncology and critical care, enhancing digital healthcare.

In a move reflecting the rapid development of the healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia, the "Seha Virtual Hospital" announced a remarkable achievement last year, providing 121,104 diverse specialized services. This accomplishment reinforces the Kingdom's position as a global leader in digital healthcare, as this advanced model is a practical embodiment of the goals of Vision 2030 to facilitate access to healthcare services and enhance the efficiency of the treatment system across all regions.

A quantum leap in digital healthcare

The virtual hospital is the largest of its kind in the world, established to connect specialized medical expertise in major centers with peripheral hospitals and remote areas. These figures are particularly significant as they represent not just statistics, but also the saving of lives and the elimination of travel burdens for thousands of patients. The hospital has proven its effectiveness in handling complex cases, with a recent report indicating that the National Virtual Heart Committee provided services to 285 complex cases across 65 hospitals, including 111 adult cases and 174 pediatric cases, demonstrating its high capacity to manage diverse age groups.

Details of specialized services and critical care

The data revealed a significant improvement in critical care services, the lifeblood of hospitals. A total of 4,486 adult patients benefited from critical care across 13 hospitals, along with 1,060 children in 7 hospitals and 4,927 newborns across 8 hospitals. The importance of this service lies in providing immediate consultations from specialists for critical cases in hospitals that may lack certain specialized expertise.

Regarding other specialized fields, the report indicated that services were provided to:

  • Tumors: 714 cases across 21 hospitals.
  • Strokes: 4,293 cases across 47 hospitals, a number that reflects the speed of response to save patients’ lives and reduce complications.
  • Brain electrical activity: 5,746 cases across 24 hospitals.
  • Radiology: It accounted for the largest share with 99,264 cases across 112 hospitals, which contributed to accelerating diagnosis and reducing waiting lists.

Local integration and international dimensions

The role of the "Virtual Health" initiative extended beyond Saudi Arabia, reaching regional and international audiences. Twelve hospitals outside the Kingdom benefited from its critical care services for 47 patients. Domestically, the contributions of health clusters were significant, with the Eastern Province Health Cluster providing services to 2,484 patients, the Al-Ahsa Health Cluster providing 230 services, and the Hafr Al-Batin Health Cluster providing 814 specialized services. This integration between health clusters and the virtual hospital underscores the success of the Kingdom's healthcare transformation model in creating a cohesive network that ensures quality healthcare for all.
