Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), participated in the Artificial Intelligence Summit in Tunisia, showcasing its AI Ethics Initiative and emphasizing its leading role in developing responsible technical frameworks regionally and internationally.

In a move reflecting its growing leadership in advanced technologies, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), actively participated in the “AI on the Future” summit hosted by the Tunisian capital. This participation coincided with the 12th meeting of the Arab AI Team, organized by the League of Arab States, thus giving the event a strategic regional dimension.

National context: Artificial intelligence at the heart of Vision 2030

This international participation is an integral part of the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to diversify the economy and build a knowledge-based society. Since its establishment in 2019 by royal decree, the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has become the executive arm and driving force behind the Kingdom’s ambitions in the fields of data and artificial intelligence. The Kingdom is working to solidify its position as a global technology hub, not only by adopting cutting-edge tools but also by leading the global dialogue on the governance of these technologies and ensuring their responsible and ethical use.

The Incentive Tags Initiative: A Saudi Model for Governance

The Authority was represented at the summit by Dr. Abdulrahman bin Tariq Habib, who presented a detailed overview of the Kingdom’s experience with the “AI Ethics Incentive Labels Initiative.” This innovative initiative aims to encourage technology institutions and companies to adopt responsible AI practices by awarding them recognition labels that acknowledge their commitment to ethical standards. Dr. Habib explained how this model contributes to building trust between developers and users and enhances transparency and accountability in AI applications, a key challenge facing the sector globally.

Regional and international impact: from guidelines to implementation

Saudi Arabia’s participation extended beyond showcasing its national experience to include contributing to international dialogues. A representative from the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) participated in an in-depth session titled “Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Ethics – From Guidelines to Application,” organized by UNESCO. In this context, the international efforts of the Riyadh-based International Center for Research and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (ICAIRE) were highlighted, along with its role in developing global ethical frameworks that support the safe and responsible use of the technology. The Kingdom’s participation in these platforms underscores its commitment to actively contributing to shaping the future of artificial intelligence in a way that serves all of humanity and reinforces its position as a trusted partner in the international technology community.

This participation in Tunisia reflects the Kingdom’s pivotal role in regional and international forums, its ongoing efforts to promote innovation and share its expertise, and to highlight the progress it has made in building a digital economy and a knowledge society that keeps pace with the rapid global transformations in future technologies.
