The General Directorate of Traffic in Saudi Arabia has reiterated its warnings to drivers and their passengers against engaging in dangerous behaviors that affect public safety and road cleanliness, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure a safe environment for all. This reminder comes as part of ongoing efforts to raise traffic awareness and reduce violations that mar the city's appearance and pose risks to road users.
Details of the violation and the financial penalty
The Traffic Department clarified via its official account on the social media platform "X" (formerly Twitter) that the offense of "throwing objects from vehicles" while in motion is a serious violation that will not be tolerated. Saudi Traffic confirmed that this offense falls under the list of traffic violations that incur a fine of no less than 300 riyals and no more than 500 riyals . This deterrent measure aims to ensure the discipline of drivers and passengers and to reduce irresponsible behavior that may seem minor to some but has extremely negative consequences.
Security and environmental dimensions of the violation
The harm caused by throwing trash or objects from car windows extends beyond mere regulation, encompassing numerous safety and environmental concerns. From a safety and traffic perspective, flying objects (such as empty cans, bags, or food scraps) can confuse drivers in vehicles behind, potentially causing them to swerve suddenly and resulting in accidents. Furthermore, these objects can become lodged in the windshields of other vehicles, obstructing visibility, or causing physical damage to the car's body.
From an environmental and cultural perspective, these practices directly contribute to what is known as "visual pollution," which the Kingdom seeks to combat within the "Quality of Life" initiatives stemming from Saudi Vision 2030. Maintaining the cleanliness of roads and streets reflects the civilized image of society and enhances the beauty of Saudi cities.
A call for commitment and social responsibility
The relevant authorities called on all citizens and residents to recognize their social responsibility and abide by traffic regulations, noting that compliance stems not only from fear of fines but also from a desire to protect public and private property and the lives of road users. Traffic patrols, along with advanced automated monitoring systems in some areas, are working to track such violations to ensure that the law is enforced against offenders.
This warning comes as part of a series of awareness campaigns launched periodically by Saudi traffic authorities to introduce traffic rights and duties, and to emphasize that the road belongs to everyone and must be respected by avoiding any behaviors that may disrupt public safety.
