In a strategic move to enhance the sports and media landscape in the Kingdom, Shura Island, the vibrant heart of the Red Sea Project, hosted the two-day "Sports Media Forum." The forum witnessed a high-level attendance, including His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and His Excellency Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossari, Minister of Media, along with leaders from the sports sector and more than 85 representatives from prominent local media outlets.
A strategic context aligned with Vision 2030
This significant event comes amidst the major transformations taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in line with Vision 2030, which positions sports as a key pillar for diversifying the national economy and improving the quality of life for citizens and residents. In recent years, the Kingdom has invested heavily in the sports sector, from attracting international stars to the Saudi Professional League to hosting major global sporting events such as Formula 1 races, world boxing championships, and other events that have placed Saudi Arabia on the global sports map. This gathering aims to align media developments with this rapid growth in sports.
Launch of the “Sports Media Club”: A step towards professionalism
The most significant announcement during the meeting was the launch of the “Sports Media Club.” This club is not merely a professional gathering, but a comprehensive and inspiring environment, equipped with the latest technologies, aimed at developing the professional practices of media professionals. The club will serve as a vital knowledge platform, hosting dialogues and specialized training workshops, thus contributing to improving the quality of sports media production. The club also places particular emphasis on empowering young talent, honing their skills, and supporting innovation in sports content creation, ensuring that local media keeps pace with global standards.
Strategic importance and expected impact
Domestically, the club is expected to revolutionize sports coverage by enhancing the skills of media professionals and equipping them with the necessary tools to deliver in-depth and innovative analytical content. Regionally and internationally, with the Kingdom's growing stature as a global sporting power, a professional and mature sports media is vital. This media will play a pivotal role in showcasing Saudi Arabia's sporting success story to the world, attracting further attention and investment, and strengthening the Kingdom's soft power on the international stage. The meeting fostered transparency through open dialogue sessions that addressed journalists' inquiries, reflecting the existing partnership between the two parties for the benefit of Saudi sports.
The choice of Shura Island, one of the luxury tourist destinations within the ambitious Red Sea Project, to host this meeting was not a coincidence, but rather carries a symbolic significance of the convergence of the Kingdom’s ambitions in the sports and tourism sectors, and their integration to achieve the goals of Vision 2030 in building a bright and sustainable future.
