A comprehensive overview of Saudi sports achievements in 2025, from Yazeed Al-Rajhi's victory in the Dakar Rally and the Crown Prince's attendance at the Saudi Cup, to hosting the Spanish Super Cup and the junior team's qualification for the World Cup.

During the first quarter of 2025, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia witnessed an unprecedented sporting boom, which came as a culmination of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program, as the Kingdom became a preferred global destination for the most prominent sporting events, in parallel with the achievement of the nation’s champions of historic accomplishments that were recorded in letters of gold.

January: An exceptional start and Saudi dominance in the automotive industry

Saudi Arabian sports began the new year with a historic achievement in the world of motorsports, as Saudi champion Yazeed Al-Rajhi won the 2025 Dakar Rally , becoming the first Saudi to achieve this title in the most demanding category. He capitalized on his extensive experience and the Kingdom's diverse terrain, which has become a stage for some of the world's toughest rallies. This achievement was not merely a sporting victory, but a confirmation of the ability of Saudi talent to compete with the world's best.

In terms of hosting major events, the Kingdom continued to attract the attention of football fans, with Jeddah and Riyadh hosting the Spanish and Italian Super Cups. Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup, while AC Milan claimed the Italian Super Cup, in matches that drew huge crowds reflecting the great passion for football in the Kingdom.

February: The most prestigious trophies and a vision for the future in NEOM

In February, the generous royal patronage of the sports sector was evident in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may God protect him – at the 2025 Saudi Cup , the world's richest horse race, held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. This event represents a bridge connecting Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage, embodied in the Arabian horse, with modern global dimensions.

Looking to the future, the Kingdom officially received the flag of the Asian Winter Games, in preparation for hosting Trogina 2029 in NEOM, a step that enhances the Kingdom’s position as the first country in West Asia to undertake the organization of a winter event of this size, thus defying geographical obstacles and confirming its enormous organizational capabilities.

March and April: Empowering women and future generations

The achievements weren't limited to men; March saw Al-Ahli's women's team crowned champions of the Saudi Federation Cup, reflecting the rapid development of women's sports and the significant support they receive. The Ministry of Sports also continued to bolster the investment environment by signing lucrative sponsorship deals, most notably the renaming of King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (known as "The Jewel") to Al-Inma Stadium.

This golden period concluded in April with two outstanding events; the first was a global event, represented by the Formula 1 race in Jeddah, which was won by the Australian Piastri, and the second was a national event of distinction, represented by the qualification of the Saudi youth national team (under 17 years old) to the World Cup finals, confirming that the base of Saudi football is on the right path towards sustaining achievements.
