His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, announced the latest developments in the health of Jamaican conjoined twins Azaria and Azura Elson, two weeks after their successful separation surgery at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in Riyadh. Dr. Al-Rabeeah, who heads the medical and surgical team for the Saudi Program for Separating Conjoined Twins, confirmed that Azaria has made a full recovery, her condition has stabilized, and she has been discharged from the pediatric intensive care unit. He added that all her vital signs have returned to normal, she has begun eating and interacting normally, and she is ready to leave the hospital soon, God willing.
In contrast, Dr. Al-Rabeeah explained that the twin Azura's condition remains critical, as she faces significant health challenges related to her heart. She is still in intensive care, on a ventilator, and receiving medication to support her severely weakened and enlarged heart muscle, which has been functioning at less than 20% of its normal capacity since birth. The multidisciplinary medical team concluded that Azura urgently needs a heart transplant to save her life. However, this option is currently unavailable due to her young age and weight, and the lack of a suitable donor according to established medical criteria, which significantly reduces her chances of survival. The twins' mother has been fully informed of all the medical details and has patiently accepted the decision.
