The General Authority for Roads reveals the results of the fourth day of the field survey campaign

The General Authority for Roads announced the latest results of its national campaign, “Safe and Excellent Roads,” revealing that 997 observations were recorded on the road network across the Kingdom on the fourth day. The Riyadh region topped the list with 143 observations, reflecting the intensive field efforts in the capital and surrounding areas. This campaign, launched by His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, is in its sixth consecutive year, underscoring the ongoing commitment to improving the quality and safety of road infrastructure.

Strategic context: Road safety as a national priority

This initiative falls within the broader framework of Saudi Arabia's efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 2030, specifically the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to solidify the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub. Saudi Arabia's road network, stretching tens of thousands of kilometers, is a vital artery for the national economy and the movement of people and goods, in addition to its pivotal role in serving millions of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah annually. Accordingly, the government has prioritized improving road efficiency and safety, establishing the General Authority for Roads in 2022 as the regulatory and supervisory body for this vital sector, with the goal of significantly reducing accident and fatality rates and enhancing the experience of road users.

Campaign details and distribution of notes

More than 620 specialists representing the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, university students, the Special Forces for Road Security, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology are participating in the campaign, distributed across 61 field teams. The results of the fourth day showed a variation in the number of observations recorded across different regions. After Riyadh, the Madinah region recorded 224 observations, followed by the Makkah region with 150. Other regions recorded varying numbers, including 97 observations in Al-Jawf, 92 in Hail, 79 in Tabuk, and 49 in the Eastern Province, demonstrating the comprehensive nature of the field survey across the Kingdom.

Importance and expected impact

The “Safe and Distinguished Roads” campaign is not only important for addressing technical issues such as potholes, cracks, or inadequate signage, but also for promoting a culture of road safety and engaging the community in monitoring the quality of services. Locally, the campaign contributes to saving lives and reducing the economic and social costs resulting from accidents. Regionally and internationally, a safe and reliable road network enhances the Kingdom’s attractiveness as a destination for investment and tourism, facilitates trade and transportation with neighboring countries, and reinforces its position as the heart of the Islamic world, welcoming pilgrims. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reiterated its call for citizens and residents to actively participate by reporting any visual defects or road-related issues through the “Turuq” app or by calling the unified number 938, emphasizing its commitment to addressing all reports to ensure a safe and comfortable travel experience for everyone.
