In a new step towards enhancing digital transformation and streamlining government procedures, the Public Security Directorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, Minister of Interior, announced the launch of a package of new electronic services through the leading “Absher” platform. His Excellency the Director of Public Security, Lieutenant General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, inaugurated these services at the General Directorate of Public Security headquarters in Riyadh, emphasizing the continued efforts to develop services provided to citizens, residents, and visitors.
Details of the new services and their objectives
The new package includes a variety of services targeting different sectors, most notably the "Security Cameras" service via the "Absher Business" platform. This service allows businesses to issue and view "Certificates of Compliance with Camera Installation" electronically, making it easier for them to adhere to regulatory and security requirements. The new services also include regulating the possession of "air rifles," enabling users to report lost or damaged licenses, as well as "motorcycle" services that facilitate ownership transfer and the issuance of authorizations. These additions complement the platform's extensive range of services, such as "Electronic Statements" and "Compliance Management," which aim to automate procedures and reduce the need for in-person visits.
The “Absher” platform: a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030
The Absher platform, launched by the Ministry of Interior, is one of the most successful e-government initiatives in the region. Since its inception, the platform has evolved significantly to become a comprehensive portal for more than 350 government services, benefiting millions of users. This continuous expansion aligns with the strategic objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to build a digital society and a thriving economy by improving the efficiency of government services and delivering them in an innovative way that prioritizes user convenience. Absher has transformed the relationship between citizens and residents and government entities from complex paper-based procedures to fast and secure digital transactions completed with the click of a button.
The expected impact of new services on society and business
The launch of these services is expected to have a tangible positive impact on several levels. Locally, the security camera regulation service will contribute to raising the level of security compliance among commercial establishments, thus enhancing public safety and facilitating the work of relevant authorities. The motorcycle and air rifle services will lead to increased efficiency in licensing management and reduce time and effort for beneficiaries. At the business level, providing these services through the “Absher Business” platform supports a more attractive investment environment by simplifying government procedures. This development represents a further step in consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a leader in digital transformation, both regionally and internationally, setting a model for leveraging technology to serve society and achieve sustainable development.
