Attorney General Sheikh Saud Al-Muajab directed the acceleration of case completion and the intensification of oversight tours of prisons during his meeting with the heads of prosecutions, stressing the importance of promoting prompt justice.

The Attorney General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab, stressed the need to expedite the processing of pending cases, emphasizing the importance of intensifying oversight and inspection tours of prisons and detention centers to ensure the protection of rights and the application of regulations. This came during his chairmanship of the periodic meeting of regional public prosecutors on Thursday, in the presence of assistant public prosecutors and a number of judicial and administrative leaders.

Supporting leadership and judicial independence

Sheikh Al-Muajab began the meeting by expressing his appreciation for the unlimited support that the justice system in the Kingdom receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister – may God protect them both. He pointed out that this support has directly contributed to strengthening the independence of the Public Prosecution and developing its institutional structure, enabling it to fulfill its noble mission of establishing justice and protecting society.

In the context of the historical development of the judicial system, the Attorney General explained that the Royal Decree establishing the Public Prosecution Council constituted a fundamental turning point and a qualitative organizational shift. This step contributed to consolidating the regulatory framework for prosecutorial work and enhancing the effectiveness of institutional governance, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places justice and transparency at the forefront of its priorities.

Priority of oversight and the rights of detainees

As part of his field directives, the Attorney General emphasized the pivotal oversight role of the Public Prosecution, instructing them to intensify field visits to prisons and detention centers. He stressed the importance of directly observing the conditions of inmates and detainees, listening to their observations and complaints, and addressing them immediately in accordance with applicable regulations. These directives reflect the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to human rights principles and ensuring that defendants enjoy all the legal guarantees enshrined in Islamic law and national legislation.

Institutional integration and effective justice

The meeting addressed the importance of strengthening joint coordination with relevant government entities, with Sheikh Al-Muajeb emphasizing the need to solidify integrated work among the various state agencies. This coordination aims to overcome procedural obstacles and enhance institutional performance, ultimately achieving the principle of "swift justice," which not only involves issuing judgments but also ensuring their swift and accurate implementation.

The meeting concluded with a comprehensive review of performance results and achievement rates in the Public Prosecution branches in various regions, and a discussion of mechanisms for developing criminal procedures, in addition to approving a package of regulatory recommendations that would enhance the efficiency of prosecutorial work and improve the services provided to beneficiaries.
