His Excellency the Attorney General, Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab, affirmed the qualitative and rapid development witnessed by the justice system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, praising the unlimited support that the judicial facility enjoys from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister - may God protect them.
This came during His Excellency’s chairmanship, on Thursday, of the periodic meeting of the heads of regional prosecutions, in the presence of assistant public prosecutors and a number of prosecution leaders, where performance indicators and ways to develop institutional work were reviewed.
Vision 2030 and the Independence of the Judiciary
In discussing strategic shifts, Sheikh Al-Muajeb explained that the Royal Decree establishing the Public Prosecution Council represents a historic turning point in the Saudi judiciary. This step aligns with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes judicial independence, transparency, and good governance. The Council is a cornerstone for establishing a robust legal framework for prosecutorial work, ensuring impartial decision-making and enhancing public and investor confidence in the Kingdom's legal environment.
Promoting human rights and prison oversight
Based on the Public Prosecution's human rights role, the Attorney General directed the intensification of oversight and inspection tours of prisons and detention centers. He emphasized the importance of direct meetings with detainees and inmates, listening to their complaints and observations, and addressing them immediately in accordance with applicable regulations. This directive reflects the Kingdom's commitment to international human rights standards and ensuring the preservation of the dignity of the accused and the provision of all legal guarantees to them during the investigation and trial phases.
Governmental integration and effective justice
Regarding procedural development, Al-Muajeb emphasized the need to enhance coordination and integration with all relevant government entities, particularly security and judicial bodies, to ensure the realization of the concept of "swift justice." He stressed that expediting case resolution and streamlining procedures for beneficiaries is not an option but a national duty, noting that the Public Prosecution is continuously reviewing and updating its criminal procedures to align with the Kingdom's digital transformation, aiming to reduce litigation time and improve institutional performance.
The meeting concluded with a discussion of a number of regulatory recommendations aimed at improving the quality of parliamentary work in various regions of the Kingdom, in order to achieve the aspirations of the wise leadership in establishing the foundations of justice and equality.
