In a move reflecting the deep cultural ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Saudi Commission for Literature, Publishing and Translation inaugurated the Kingdom's pavilion at the 57th Cairo International Book Fair 2026. The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and the Saudi Ambassador to Cairo, Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini, who were received by the Commission's CEO, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Wasil.
The importance of the Cairo International Book Fair and its rich history
The Cairo International Book Fair is one of the most important and prestigious cultural events in the Middle East and the Arab world, serving as a cultural platform for intellectual and literary exchange since its inception. The Kingdom's participation in the 2026 edition is of particular significance, coming at a time of unprecedented cultural renaissance in Saudi Arabia, making the fair an ideal platform to showcase this transformation to a broad audience of intellectuals, publishers, and readers from around the world.
Strengthening cultural identity and the Kingdom's vision
Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Wasil emphasized that this participation is not limited to displaying books, but strategically aims to raise awareness of authentic Saudi cultural heritage. Through its pavilion, the Authority seeks to highlight the Kingdom's intellectual depth as an integral part of its national identity, in line with the objectives of the National Cultural Strategy stemming from the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which focuses on enhancing the international presence of Saudi creators and exporting local culture to the world.
Integration of participating government agencies
This year, the Saudi pavilion is distinguished by its remarkable institutional integration, bringing together ten government entities under its umbrella, led by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission. These include the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance; the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language; the Saudi Cultural Attaché in Egypt; the King Abdulaziz Public Library; the King Fahd National Library; the King Fahd Complex for Printing the Holy Qur'an; the Arab Observatory for Translation; the Saudi Laboratory for Criticism; and the Publishing Association. This diversity reflects the richness of the Saudi cultural landscape and the multiplicity of its sources, ranging from Islamic studies to Arabic language, translation, and literary criticism.
A rich cultural program and bridges for communication
In addition to the book fair, the Authority has prepared a rich cultural program featuring literary seminars and poetry evenings presented by a selection of prominent Saudi writers and intellectuals. This program aims to create a space for interactive dialogue with the Egyptian and Arab public, highlighting contemporary Saudi intellectual output, thereby contributing to building bridges of knowledge exchange, supporting joint publishing, and strengthening the Kingdom's position as a key player in the regional and international cultural landscape.
