The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Projects and Maintenance Agency, announced the launch of a comprehensive operational plan to enhance the readiness of mosques and prayer halls across the Kingdom, as part of intensive preparations for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH. The Ministry revealed that 102 comprehensive maintenance, operational, and cleaning operations were carried out, targeting 18,691 mosques and prayer halls, with the aim of creating a comfortable and safe environment for worshippers during the blessed month.
Historical background and the importance of preparing for Ramadan:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, pays meticulous attention to the houses of God, and preparations for the month of Ramadan are a long-standing annual tradition. This month holds a special place for Muslims, as the number of worshippers in mosques increases significantly for the obligatory prayers, Tarawih prayers, and Qiyam prayers. Therefore, these annual efforts ensure that mosques are fully prepared to accommodate these large increases and provide all means of comfort and tranquility for worshippers, reflecting the Kingdom's leading role in serving Islam and Muslims.
Details of the maintenance and operation plan:
The ministry clarified that the work carried out was not limited to general cleaning, but included a comprehensive package of technical and operational services. These operations included meticulous monitoring of routine maintenance and addressing urgent technical issues in electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and audio systems. Emphasis was also placed on sanitizing and disinfecting all mosque facilities, including carpets, copies of the Quran, and restrooms, in addition to ensuring the efficiency of lighting and ventilation systems. These operations are conducted according to a well-organized operational plan in direct coordination with the ministry's branches in all regions to guarantee comprehensive coverage and maximum effectiveness.
The local and international importance of these efforts:
Domestically, this initiative contributes to enhancing the quality of religious life for citizens and residents, aligning with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the Guests of God Service Program, which aims to enrich the religious experience for Muslims. Internationally, these efforts solidify the Kingdom’s image as a leader of the Islamic world and underscore its commitment to providing the best services not only at the Two Holy Mosques but also in all mosques across the country frequented by millions of Muslims, including pilgrims and visitors who flock to the Kingdom during Ramadan.
The ministry affirmed that these efforts are part of an ongoing work system to develop the maintenance and operation sector and to monitor the readiness of mosques throughout the year, which enhances the level of services provided to worshippers and fulfills the ministry’s mission to care for mosques and their staff.
