The head of the media regulation affirmed that the media sector is a strategic investment that supports the economy within the framework of Vision 2030, with a regulatory environment that stimulates innovation and attracts investments.

Dr. Abdul Latif bin Mohammed Al Abdul Latif, CEO of the General Authority for Media Regulation, emphasized the pivotal role of the media sector as a vital strategic investment supporting the national economy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This came during his address at the Saudi Media Forum 2026, held in Riyadh under the theme “Media in a Changing World,” where he highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to create a sophisticated and stimulating regulatory environment.

Background of media transformation within the framework of Vision 2030

This trend is an integral part of the major transformations underway in the Kingdom as part of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify national income sources and reduce dependence on oil. Historically, Saudi media has focused heavily on traditional channels, but with the launch of Vision 2030, a new phase of development began, encompassing the modernization of the regulatory and legislative infrastructure. Bodies such as the General Authority for Media Regulation were established to ensure the sector keeps pace with global developments, promote local content, and open doors to quality investments, both domestic and foreign, thus strengthening the Kingdom's position as a regional media hub.

The strategic importance and economic impact of media

Al-Abdulatif pointed out that the Kingdom's stimulating regulatory environment aims to enhance investor confidence and support innovation across various media sectors, from television and film production to digital media and the video game industry. Developing this sector extends beyond direct financial returns, creating promising job opportunities for Saudi youth, nurturing creative talent, and strengthening the Kingdom's soft power on the international stage. This rapid growth is expected to contribute to achieving the goals of Vision 2030 by building a knowledge-based and sustainable economy.

The Saudi Media Forum as a global platform

The Saudi Media Forum, whose fifth edition was inaugurated by Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossari, is a leading platform that brings together more than 300 media leaders and experts from over 20 countries. The forum features more than 150 specialized dialogue sessions discussing the intersections of media with politics, economics, and technology, reflecting the Kingdom's pioneering role in the media industry. The forum is also accompanied by the Future of Media Exhibition (FOMEX), which includes more than 250 local and international companies showcasing the latest technologies and innovations in the field, and providing opportunities for partnerships and investments that will drive the sector's growth.
