The Saudi capital, Riyadh, is preparing to host a prominent media event, where Arab information ministers will participate in a high-level dialogue session entitled “Media as a Force for Change: Public Opinion Challenges and Shaping the Future Generation.” This session is part of the fifth edition of the Saudi Media Forum 2026, held under the theme “Media in a Changing World,” which brings together leading decision-makers and experts to discuss the future of the media industry in the region and the world.
Background and importance of the Saudi Media Forum
Since its inception, the Saudi Media Forum has established itself as one of the most important dialogue platforms in the Middle East, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to develop the culture and media sectors and enhance the Kingdom's soft power. The Forum provides a vital space for exchanging expertise and showcasing the latest media technologies and trends, and contributes to building strategic partnerships between Arab and international media institutions. Its convening in Riyadh underscores the pivotal role the Kingdom plays as an influential regional media hub.
Strategic discussion topics for shaping the future
The ministerial session will be chaired by Saudi Shura Council member Fahd Al-Aqran, and will include Syrian Minister of Information Hamza Al-Mustafa, Jordanian Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Hussein Saad Al-Momani, Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar bin Mutahhar Al-Iryani, and Palestinian General Supervisor of Official Media Ahmad Assaf. Discussions will focus on the pivotal role of media in shaping public awareness and influencing public opinion, particularly in light of the growing challenges posed by the digital age.
The session will delve into pressing issues such as how to combat misinformation and fake news that spread rapidly through social media, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the production and distribution of news content. It will also explore ways to strike a delicate balance between ensuring freedom of expression and upholding professional and ethical responsibility to protect societies from hate speech and incitement, and to foster credibility and trust between the public and media institutions.
Expected impact at the regional and international levels
This session is particularly important as it brings together officials from various Arab countries, opening the door to coordinating media policies to address shared challenges. Media is now viewed as a crucial soft power tool, capable of fostering intercultural dialogue and building bridges of understanding between nations. The discussions are expected to yield insights and strategies aimed at empowering Arab media to become active players on the international stage, able to amplify its voice and narrative globally, and effectively advocate for the region's causes.
The forum will feature more than 300 of the world’s leading media professionals, experts and academics, who will enrich the dialogue in more than 150 sessions and workshops, making it a comprehensive event that explores all aspects of the media industry and contributes to charting a roadmap for a brighter and more responsible future.
