The Saudi national handball team concluded its overseas training camp in Turkey on Monday, which was the fifth stage of the intensive preparation program set by the technical staff in preparation for the 22nd Asian Championship for national teams, scheduled to begin in Kuwait this January.
Results of the Türkiye camp and technical gains
The Saudi national team's training camp in Turkey included two international friendlies against the Turkish national team, with each team winning one match and losing the other. During these matches, the coaching staff focused on implementing various tactical strategies, raising the players' technical and physical readiness, and enhancing team cohesion and harmony. This was all part of a plan for a gradual improvement in performance to reach peak readiness before the start of official competitions.
The importance of the Asian Championship and the challenges of qualification
The 22nd Asian Championship is of paramount importance, not only as a prestigious continental tournament, but also as the primary gateway to the World Men's Handball Championship. Through this extensive and intensive preparation, the Saudi national team aims to secure its place among the world's elite and solidify its position as a major force in Asian handball, amidst fierce competition expected from other regional teams, particularly the host nation Kuwait, as well as Qatar and Bahrain, given the remarkable development of Gulf handball in recent years.
A challenging and comprehensive preparation journey
The training camp in Turkey was just one link in a long chain of preparations, with the training program having gone through several meticulous phases. The first phase began with an internal camp in the Eastern Province (December 8-13, 2025) focusing on physical conditioning. This was followed by the second phase in Doha, featuring two challenging matches against the Qatari national team (December 14-18, 2025) to raise the competitive level. In the third phase, the Saudi national team returned to an internal camp in the Eastern Province to enhance technical aspects, before traveling to Georgia for the fourth phase (December 25-31, 2025) to play two friendly matches against the Georgian national team, which helped to identify the team's strengths and weaknesses.
The final stage before heading to Kuwait
The Saudi national team is scheduled to enter the sixth and final stage of its preparation program on Thursday, January 8, which will continue until January 13, 2026. This crucial stage will include two friendly matches on January 10 and 11, which will serve as the final test to determine the core squad and full readiness before packing up and heading to Kuwait to compete for the continental title and secure a World Cup qualification ticket.
