The CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development meets with the Ministers of Finance, Health and Education in Syria to discuss development cooperation opportunities and support for infrastructure projects and economic recovery.

In a move reflecting the development of bilateral relations and the shared desire to enhance Arab development efforts, the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, Sultan Al-Murshid, held a series of important meetings today in the Syrian capital, Damascus. These meetings included discussions with three Syrian government ministers: Finance Minister Dr. Muhammad Yasser Barnieh, Health Minister Dr. Musab Al-Ali, and Education Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Turko. The talks were also attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Syrian Arab Republic, Faisal Al-Mujfel.

The bilateral meetings addressed avenues and opportunities for joint development cooperation, and discussed possible mechanisms for supporting and financing vital projects in the health, education, and finance sectors—sectors that form the backbone of economic and social recovery in Syria. This visit comes within the context of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries, and as an implementation of the outcomes of the Arab rapprochement aimed at strengthening stability in the region and supporting Arab states in confronting economic challenges.

These discussions are of particular importance given the urgent need to rehabilitate Syria's infrastructure after years of crisis, with Saudi support through its development arm, the Saudi Fund for Development, being a key pillar for achieving sustainable development. Both sides are focusing on projects that directly impact the lives of Syrian citizens, especially in the healthcare and education sectors, thereby contributing to improved basic services and enhanced efficiency of government institutions.

For its part, the Saudi Fund for Development boasts a distinguished track record of achievements spanning over 50 years, establishing itself as one of the world's leading development actors. Since its founding in 1974, the Fund has made substantial contributions to more than 100 developing countries, financing and supporting over 800 development projects and programs across diverse sectors.

The total value of the Fund’s cumulative grants and loans exceeds $22 billion, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to supporting international and regional development. These efforts aim to achieve a sustainable development impact that enhances opportunities for economic and social growth in beneficiary countries and supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
