The Saudi Foreign Minister affirmed the Kingdom’s right to respond to Iranian attacks targeting energy supplies and destabilizing the region, warning of the consequences of this behavior.

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated today, Thursday, the Kingdom's firm stance against threats to the region's security, emphasizing that the Kingdom reserves the right to respond to Iranian attacks targeting the stability of neighboring countries. During a press conference held on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting in Riyadh, His Highness explained that Tehran's targeting of energy supplies not only harms the region but also directly impacts the entire global economy.

The repercussions of Iranian attacks on global energy security

Given the broader context and historical background, the Arabian Gulf region has always been a vital artery for global oil and energy supplies. Recent years have witnessed a series of security tensions, most notably sabotage attacks targeting critical oil facilities and shipping lanes, in which international reports have implicated Tehran or its proxies. The continuation of Iranian aggression in this context poses a clear threat to the freedom of international navigation and the security of strategic waterways, negatively impacting energy prices and increasing the economic burden on consuming nations worldwide. Therefore, the Foreign Minister's statements are of paramount importance in reassuring global markets and reaffirming the Kingdom's commitment to protecting its own resources and those of the global economy.

Policy of supporting militias and destabilizing the region

In a related context, the Foreign Minister strongly condemned the attacks targeting Gulf and Arab states, noting that the Iranian regime has a history of instigating crises and committing crimes, then denying them and shirking responsibility, particularly those targeting innocent civilians. His Highness emphasized that Iran's systematic behavior is fundamentally based on supporting armed militias and extremist groups beyond its borders, a blatant violation of the principles of good neighborliness and international laws and norms.

This continued support for armed groups in several Arab countries has complicated the political and security landscape in the Middle East. The anticipated impact of these hostile policies extends beyond the local level, creating successive regional and international crises that hinder development and peace efforts. The Kingdom and the international community recognize that achieving stability requires a unified and firm stance to deter these practices and cut off the sources of funding for terrorism, which threatens the security of nations.

A firm message: Dire consequences for miscalculations

The Foreign Minister explained that the ministerial meeting clearly emphasized the need for Tehran to fundamentally reconsider its policies. He stated that the Iranians had failed to heed previous diplomatic messages and had persisted in their transgressions against their neighbors, mistakenly believing that the Gulf states would be unable to respond. He added, “Iran has targeted Islamic countries, and we reserve the right to respond to these transgressions. Tehran must abandon its hostile policies and cease its attacks immediately.”.

In conclusion, His Highness stressed that the Iranian leadership must understand that there are serious consequences for its destabilizing behavior. This Saudi position reflects a comprehensive strategy aimed at protecting Arab national security and sending a clear message to the international community about the need to uphold its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to counter any attempts to drag the region into open conflict.
