Within the framework of ongoing coordination between the two major regional powers in the Arab world, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, with His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. This meeting reflects the depth of the fraternal ties that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the commitment of both leaderships to continuous consultation on all critical issues.
Strengthening the strategic partnership
The two sides began their meeting by discussing the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to develop and enhance them in various political, economic, and security fields. Saudi-Egyptian relations are a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East region, as the two countries are bound by deep-rooted historical ties and a strategic partnership aimed at achieving the interests of both brotherly peoples and confronting the common challenges facing the Arab region.
Developments in Gaza and the Palestinian issue
Rapidly evolving regional and international developments dominated the discussions, particularly the dire situation in the Gaza Strip. The two ministers discussed ways to intensify Arab and international efforts to achieve an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian people. Saudi Arabia and Egypt share a common vision regarding the necessity of finding a just and comprehensive political solution to the Palestinian issue that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and rejects any attempts to displace Palestinians or liquidate their cause.
The Sudanese file and Red Sea security
The meeting also addressed the Sudanese crisis, with both sides emphasizing the importance of preserving Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and national institutions, and the necessity of ending the internal fighting that threatens the stability of the entire region. In a related context, the two ministers discussed developments in Yemen and Red Sea security, stressing the importance of securing international navigation in this vital waterway.
The talks also included the situation in Somalia, where both sides renewed their countries’ support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against any external interference, and support for the Somali government’s efforts to combat terrorism and establish security.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini, and the Director General of the Office of His Highness the Minister, Walid Al-Smaeel, reflecting the great interest that the Kingdom attaches to the outcomes of these high-level diplomatic talks.
