The “Dates are Better” campaign: A new window into authentic Saudi heritage
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the status of Saudi dates as a national product of high economic and cultural value, the National Center for Palms and Dates is showcasing its efforts to highlight the value of Saudi dates as a high-quality local ingredient and a complete natural food. This comes as part of the "Enjoy Dates, They're Better" promotional campaign, which seeks to raise consumer awareness of the delicious taste of dates and expand their use in innovative food industries, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to boost non-oil exports.
Historical background: Palm trees and dates are at the heart of Saudi culture
The date palm and dates are deeply intertwined with the history and heritage of Saudi Arabia. They are not merely an agricultural crop, but a symbol of generosity and hospitality, and an integral part of the Kingdom's cultural and social fabric. Throughout history, dates have been a staple food for the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula, thanks to their high nutritional value and resilience to harsh climatic conditions. Today, the Kingdom holds a leading global position in date production, boasting over 33 million date palms and producing more than 1.5 million tons annually of the finest varieties, such as Ajwa, Sukkari, and Khalaas.
Modern innovations and a variety of date-flavored products
As part of the campaign, the National Center for Palms and Dates, in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, held a presentation at its headquarters in Riyadh showcasing a wide range of date-flavored food products. The event, which aimed to promote integration between the public and private sectors, featured a diverse selection of products including baked goods, sweets, dairy products, beverages, and snacks. Ministry staff participated in tasting these products, which reflect the interest of Saudi companies in incorporating the authentic flavor of dates into modern, processed products that meet consumer expectations and adhere to international standards of quality and food safety.
Economic importance and future impact
These initiatives are of paramount importance both locally and internationally. Locally, they contribute to supporting farmers, stimulating innovation in the food industry, creating new job opportunities, and diversifying national income sources. Internationally, these efforts aim to increase the volume of Saudi exports of dates and date products, open new markets, and enhance the "Saudi Dates" brand as a trusted global brand. With the growing global trend towards healthy and natural foods, Saudi dates have a unique opportunity to solidify their position as a healthy alternative and an innovative food ingredient in global markets, thereby increasing their economic value and sustainably supporting the national economy.
