Preparations for the 2026 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia their crucial stages, with less than two weeks remaining until the Kingdom hosts the seventh consecutive edition of this prestigious global event. These intensive preparations are being carried out under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Sport and with meticulous organization by the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation in collaboration with Saudi Motorsports Company, to ensure the event reflects the Kingdom's stature as a world-class sporting destination.

High logistical and technical readiness

In the race against time to ensure maximum readiness, coordination meetings continue between various relevant government agencies to overcome all obstacles. On the logistical front, King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu witnessed a flurry of activity last week, receiving two ships from the Spanish port of Barcelona carrying hundreds of vehicles and heavy equipment belonging to the participating teams. Technical and safety inspections of these vehicles are scheduled to begin on January 1st and 2nd to ensure they meet the rally's stringent safety and technical specifications.

A rich history and a new chapter in the Kingdom

The Dakar Rally is considered the toughest and most famous desert rally in the world. Throughout its long history, it has undergone major geographical transformations, from its classic route between Paris and Dakar in Africa, through South America, to its third and current edition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This edition is particularly significant as it solidifies the Kingdom's position as a permanent host for this event, reflecting international confidence in Saudi Arabia's organizational capabilities and the diverse terrain that offers a unique challenge for competitors, encompassing sand dunes, rocky areas, and valleys.

Details of the route and participants in the 2026 edition

The 2026 edition will witness record international participation, with 812 competitors representing 69 different nationalities, driving 433 diverse vehicles. The participating categories include 73 Ultimate vehicles, 46 monster trucks, 118 motorcycles, as well as Challenger, Side-by-Side, and Classic car categories. Also featured is the Mission 1000 project, which focuses on future technologies and includes vehicles powered by alternative energy sources.

The race spans 14 days, from January 3rd to 17th, following a completely new route designed to showcase the Kingdom's geographical and cultural diversity. The journey begins with a preliminary stage in Yanbu, after which the caravan embarks on a challenging trek through the breathtaking landscapes of Al-Ula, and Hail, the gateway to the desert, before arriving in the capital, Riyadh, for a rest day. The competition then resumes towards Wadi Al-Dawasir, followed by Bisha and Al-Hanakiya, before returning to the finish line in Yanbu.
