The Saudi Council of Engineers announced the creation of 6 new engineering divisions, including mining, safety, and facilities management, in line with the requirements of the labor market and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

A strategic step towards engineering specialization

The Saudi Council of Engineers announced a significant organizational step: the establishment of six new engineering divisions. This initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to develop engineering professions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The aim is to organize specialized and precise fields to keep pace with the rapid developments in the labor market and the requirements of vital projects aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The Council clarified that nominations for membership in the councils of these divisions will open on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM and will continue until February 9, 2026.

General context and role of the Engineers Syndicate

The Saudi Council of Engineers was established by royal decree in 1423 AH (2002 CE) as a professional and scientific body aiming to advance the engineering profession and everything that contributes to its development and the improvement of its practitioners. Since its inception, the Council has worked to establish the foundations and standards for practicing the profession, develop the skills of engineers, and ensure the competence and qualifications of those working in the engineering sector within the Kingdom, whether citizens or expatriates. This has significantly contributed to raising the quality of engineering projects and ensuring public safety.

The importance of the new people and their expected impact

The introduction of these new divisions reflects the Kingdom's strategic direction towards economic diversification and the development of new sectors. The six divisions—Mining Engineering, Marine Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Safety Engineering, Facilities Management, and Biomedical Engineering—are closely aligned with the goals of Vision 2030. For example, the Mining Engineering division supports the Kingdom's ambition to make mining the third pillar of national industry. The Marine Engineering division addresses the mega-projects along the Red Sea coast, while the Facilities Management division serves the critical need for the efficient and sustainable management and operation of modern infrastructure and buildings. This specialized approach enhances professional competence and elevates the level of engineering services provided in these vital sectors.

Eligibility requirements and competency criteria

To ensure the selection of the most qualified individuals to lead these divisions, the Authority has established a set of requirements for candidates. The primary requirements include being a current and active member of the Authority within the division specialization for which they wish to apply. Candidates must also hold a minimum professional certification ("Professional") and commit to full compliance with the Authority's regulations and rules. For the Safety Engineering and Facilities Management divisions, the Authority has added a specific requirement: demonstrable experience of at least five years in the field or possession of a recognized professional certification. This underscores the importance of practical experience in these critical disciplines to guarantee the highest levels of quality and professional performance.
