Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discusses with his Beninese counterpart ways to strengthen bilateral relations and discusses regional and international developments of common interest.

In a move reflecting the depth of diplomatic relations and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to strengthening its international partnerships, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin, Ouchlejohn Adjadi Bakary, in Riyadh. The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, as well as to exchange views on the most prominent developments on the regional and international scenes.

A growing partnership and historical background

These discussions come within the context of longstanding relations between the Kingdom and Benin, as Riyadh, in line with its Vision 2030, seeks to build bridges of cooperation with promising African nations. The Saudi Fund for Development has consistently played a pivotal role in supporting development projects in Benin, encompassing vital sectors such as infrastructure, water, and health, thus contributing to strengthening economic and humanitarian ties between the two countries. This meeting is seen as a continuation of this momentum, aiming to explore new avenues for investment and bilateral trade, serving mutual interests and supporting Benin's sustainable development goals.

Regional importance in light of security challenges

Discussions on regional developments are of particular importance given Benin's location in West Africa, a region facing increasing security challenges, especially in the Sahel. The Kingdom attaches great importance to the stability of this region, as any security disturbances could have repercussions beyond its geographical borders. It is expected that the talks addressed the importance of coordinating international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and to promote security and peace, which represents a strategic convergence between the two countries' foreign policies aimed at achieving regional stability.

International coordination and a shared vision

At the international level, the meeting presents an opportunity to unify visions and coordinate positions in international forums, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations, on pressing global issues. The Kingdom's commitment to consulting with its partners, including Benin, reflects its proactive foreign policy and its role as an influential player seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts and supporting multilateral action. The reception was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, and His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Saud bin Mohammed Al-Sati, underscoring the importance the Kingdom attaches to these bilateral relations.
