The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by the Crown Prince, affirmed the Kingdom's commitment to supporting a transitional peace council in Gaza, in a move aimed at ending the conflict and achieving regional stability.

In a significant diplomatic move, the Saudi Cabinet, during its session held in Riyadh and chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Gaza Strip. The Cabinet emphasized the importance of supporting the mission of the “Gaza Peace Council” as a pivotal transitional body for ending the ongoing conflict and overseeing the reconstruction process, thus paving the way for lasting security and stability for all the peoples of the region.

Historical context and ongoing efforts

This Saudi stance is an extension of the Kingdom's historical and unwavering role in supporting the Palestinian cause. For decades, Saudi Arabia has adopted a clear position calling for a just and comprehensive solution based on the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions. The Kingdom's efforts have not been limited to political support alone, but have also included providing substantial humanitarian and economic aid to the Palestinian people over the years. This aid has been particularly intensified during the current crisis in Gaza to alleviate the humanitarian suffering.

Regional and international importance of the decision

Saudi Arabia’s affirmation of its support for a transitional body in Gaza carries significant strategic importance both regionally and internationally. Regionally, this stance reinforces the Kingdom’s role as a key stabilizing force in the Middle East, actively working to defuse crises and offer practical and sustainable solutions. Internationally, this proposal presents a clear Saudi vision for the post-war period in Gaza, aligning with ongoing discussions among global powers seeking a mechanism to manage the Strip and prevent a recurrence of conflict. This commitment further strengthens Riyadh’s position as a reliable partner of the international community in peacebuilding efforts.

Closely linked to Vision 2030

The Council also reviewed the outcomes of the Kingdom's delegation's participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, which highlighted the progress made in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The Kingdom's political stance on regional stability is directly linked to the Vision's objectives, as achieving comprehensive economic development and social transformation requires a secure and stable regional environment. Active Saudi diplomacy, whether in economic forums like Davos or on political issues such as Gaza, reflects a comprehensive approach aimed at strengthening the Kingdom's position as an influential economic and political leader on the global stage.
