In embodying the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading role in global humanitarian work, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to extend a helping hand to affected communities around the world, having recently implemented a series of vital relief projects in five countries across Asia, Africa and Europe, including specialized medical assistance and urgent food baskets, targeting the most vulnerable groups of refugees and victims of natural disasters and economic crises.
The general context of Saudi humanitarian efforts
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center was established in 2015 as the Kingdom's international arm for providing humanitarian and relief assistance. Since its inception, the Center has implemented thousands of projects in dozens of countries around the world, based on the principles of neutrality and impartiality, with the aim of alleviating human suffering regardless of race or religion. This latest aid comes as part of the Kingdom's ongoing strategy to support global stability and promote human development in disaster-stricken areas, reflecting its unwavering commitment to international responsibility.
Specialized medical support in the Comoros Islands
In the Union of the Comoros, the center concluded two volunteer medical projects in the fields of pediatric surgery and urology in Moroni. With the participation of a specialized medical team of 10 volunteers, the project provided medical examinations to 117 patients and performed 65 complex surgical procedures, all of which were successful. This initiative is particularly important given the challenges facing the health sector in the Comoros, as such campaigns contribute to providing advanced medical care that is difficult to access locally, as well as transferring expertise to local medical personnel.
Urgent relief for victims of the Afghanistan earthquake
In response to the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 520 food baskets and 520 cartons of dates in Balkh province. This aid benefited 520 affected families, helping to meet their basic food needs amidst extremely difficult humanitarian conditions. Afghanistan is among the countries most affected by complex humanitarian crises, exacerbated by natural disasters, making urgent food assistance a lifeline for the local population.
Prosthetic limbs for Ukrainian refugees in Poland
In a significant humanitarian gesture, the center concluded its volunteer medical project to fit prosthetic limbs for Ukrainian refugees in the Polish city of Rzeszów. The project helped 20 beneficiaries, victims of the war, regain their mobility and improve their quality of life. Since the start of the Ukrainian crisis, Poland has received millions of refugees, and this project highlights the long-term medical needs of displaced persons, emphasizing the importance of psychological and physical support for their rehabilitation and integration into their new communities.
Food support for refugees and the host community in Lebanon
Amid Lebanon’s crippling economic crisis, the center distributed 882 food baskets and 882 cartons of dates in Akkar Governorate, benefiting 4,410 Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as Lebanese families in the host community. This support aims to alleviate the economic burden on the most vulnerable families and contribute to strengthening social stability among the various segments of Lebanese society, which hosts the largest number of refugees per capita in the world.
Childcare in the Zaatari camp in Jordan
In conjunction with Universal Children's Day, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center organized a variety of recreational and sporting activities for Syrian refugee children at the Zaatari camp in Jordan. The activities included competitions and football matches, aimed at providing psychological and social support to children living in difficult refugee conditions. The Zaatari camp is one of the largest refugee camps in the world, and these initiatives play a pivotal role in bringing smiles to the children's faces and alleviating the psychological impact of the Syrian crisis on them.
