Heavy rain expected in 8 Saudi regions
The National Center for Meteorology announced its forecast that large parts of the country will be affected by a rain system ranging from moderate to heavy. The center explained that this weather system will begin Friday evening and continue until Sunday morning, based on analyses and data from the advanced "Saudi Numerical Model," one of the modern technological tools the Kingdom relies on for accurate weather forecasting.
According to the statement, the geographical scope of the rainfall will include eight main regions, starting from the northern regions of Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders , then extending to include the Madinah and Makkah regions , in addition to Hail and Al-Qassim , reaching the northern parts of the Eastern Province . These rains are expected to be accompanied by surface wind activity and hail in some areas, which may lead to flash floods in valleys and ravines.
The climatic context and the importance of rainfall for the Kingdom
This rainfall comes amidst a climate characterized by significant global changes. Although the Kingdom's climate is predominantly arid and desert, such rainfall events, especially during seasonal transitions, play a vital role in replenishing water resources. The heavy rains contribute to replenishing groundwater and filling dams, which is crucial for the country's water security and agricultural sector. Historically, the rainy season has been a source of life and prosperity in the Arabian Peninsula and continues to be a matter of great interest and concern for all segments of society.
Expected impacts and raising the level of preparedness
Given the expected heavy rainfall, the impacts may outweigh any positive aspects, posing challenges that require thorough preparation. The weather conditions are expected to affect traffic in some cities and on highways, and may cause water accumulation. Accordingly, the National Center of Meteorology emphasized the importance of raising the level of preparedness and coordination among relevant government agencies, such as Civil Defense and regional municipalities, to respond immediately to any emergency. These agencies have already begun activating their emergency plans, which include deploying field teams and water pumping equipment and ensuring road safety.
Important public safety guidelines
The center emphasized that its specialized teams are monitoring weather developments around the clock, committed to issuing immediate reports and alerts to keep the public informed. In this context, the center urged citizens and residents to exercise extreme caution and stay away from valleys, floodplains, and low-lying areas that could pose a risk to life and property. It also advised following official weather bulletins issued by the center and other relevant authorities, and strictly adhering to all announced safety instructions to ensure everyone's well-being.
