As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center concluded a large-scale aid campaign in Hadramawt Governorate, targeting thousands of families affected by the difficult economic conditions. The aid included the distribution of complete food baskets and vouchers for winter clothing, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to alleviating human suffering in Yemen.
Details of emergency food interventions
The center announced the completion of the distribution of 40,000 food baskets in 12 districts of the Wadi and Desert region of Hadramawt. This large-scale project benefited approximately 280,000 individuals from the most vulnerable and needy groups. The distribution covered key and vital districts, including: Tarim, Al-Abr with Al-Khasha, Sayun, Shibam, As-Sum, Sah, Al-Qatn, Ramah, Thamud, Al-Qaf, Zamakh and Manwakh, and Hajar As-Say'ar. This aid is part of the "Emergency Food Interventions Project in the Republic of Yemen," which aims to bridge the food gap and secure the basic needs of families.
Supporting displaced people with winter clothing
In addition to food aid, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 557 shopping vouchers in the Shibam district of Hadramawt. These vouchers enable beneficiary families, most of whom are displaced, to purchase winter clothing to protect them from the harsh winter cold. This project, which benefited 557 individuals, is part of the Center’s annual “Winter Clothing Distribution Project (Kanaf)” to help vulnerable groups cope with difficult weather conditions.
The general context of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen
This aid comes at a critical time, as Yemen has been suffering for years from one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, according to United Nations reports. The conflict, which began in 2014, has led to the collapse of the economy and the deterioration of infrastructure, leaving millions of Yemenis in dire need of humanitarian assistance to survive. Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has prioritized supporting Yemen, implementing hundreds of projects in the food security, health, water, shelter, and education sectors, at a total cost exceeding billions of dollars.
The importance of aid and its expected impact
At the local level, this aid directly contributes to enhancing food security for families in Hadramawt, alleviating their economic burden, and enabling them to meet their basic needs. At the regional and international levels, these efforts underscore the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as one of the largest international humanitarian donors, and highlight its unwavering commitment to supporting Yemen's stability and contributing to global efforts to address the crisis. Representatives of local authorities in the targeted districts commended the Kingdom's humanitarian role through its relief arm, expressing their deep gratitude for these vital interventions, which represent a lifeline for many under the current circumstances.
