The Red Sea International Film Festival, in its 2025 edition, continues to solidify Saudi Arabia's position as a leading cultural and artistic destination on the global map. Under the theme "In Love with Cinema," the festival took place in Jeddah from December 4th to 13th, attracting a distinguished audience of film stars and filmmakers from around the world, reflecting the rapid development of the film industry in the region.
In a move that underscores the high artistic value the festival offers its audience, a special and exclusive screening of the epic film "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" by renowned American director Quentin Tarantino has been announced. This event marks the Middle East and North Africa premiere of the film, and moviegoers will be able to watch it on December 12 at the Cultural Square in Jeddah's historic district (Al-Balad). This screening coincides with the film's release in over 1,000 theaters across the United States, placing Jeddah's audience at the heart of this global cinematic event and reflecting the confidence of international directors in the festival as a premier platform for launching their work.
In a tribute celebrating cinematic history, the festival witnessed exceptional moments with the honoring of Indian cinema icon Rekha, in a rare appearance for the esteemed star outside her homeland. Rekha received the award from Faisal Baltior, CEO of the Red Sea Film Foundation, in recognition of her illustrious career that has inspired generations of actors. To commemorate this achievement, the program included a screening of the restored version of her timeless classic film "Umrao Jaan" within the "Red Sea Treasures" section, dedicated to preserving global cinematic heritage and restoring masterpieces to ensure their survival for future generations.
This edition is particularly significant within the context of the cultural transformations taking place in the Kingdom as part of Vision 2030, where the festival plays a pivotal role in supporting the creative economy and developing local talent. Since its inception, the festival has transcended its role as a mere red carpet for stars, evolving into a genuine incubator for the film industry through its funding programs and film market. This has contributed to creating a fertile environment for Saudi and Arab film production and opened channels for cultural dialogue between East and West.
Furthermore, the selection of Historic Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to host some of the events highlights the unique harmony between the authenticity of the past and the modernity of the future. This blend of the charm of Hijazi architecture and the allure of international cinema gives the festival a distinctive visual and cultural identity, setting it apart from other international festivals and contributing to the revitalization of cultural tourism in the region, making Jeddah a global meeting point for lovers of art and beauty.
