Expanding the scope of the building compliance initiative in Qatif
The Qatif Governorate Municipality announced the launch of the second phase of its "Building Compliance Certificate Issuance" initiative, targeting three vital neighborhoods and eight main streets within the governorate. This step comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve the urban landscape, address visual pollution, and ensure buildings adhere to approved regulations and requirements. The municipality urged property owners to respond promptly to the initiative and contribute to achieving its developmental goals.
National context and Vision 2030
The “Building Compliance Certificate” is a national initiative launched by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing as part of its comprehensive strategy to improve the quality of life in Saudi cities, a key objective of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The initiative aims to standardize the external appearance of buildings and eliminate haphazard practices that negatively impact the urban environment, such as exposed electrical and drainage wiring, cracked building facades, and inconsistent colors and finishes. The initiative is being implemented in phases across various cities in the Kingdom, with the Qatif Municipality’s transition to its second phase reflecting significant progress in applying modern urban standards.
Importance and expected local impact
The immediate impact of this phase is focused on enhancing urban efficiency in densely populated and commercially active neighborhoods, namely Al-Nasrah, Dana Al-Rams, and Al-Shubaily. The implementation of compliance standards is expected to lead to tangible improvements felt by both residents and visitors, contributing to a more comfortable and organized visual environment and raising public safety standards by addressing construction violations. In the long term, these efforts are anticipated to increase the investment value of properties in the targeted neighborhoods and enhance the governorate's appeal as a sophisticated residential and commercial destination.
Details of targeted areas
The inspection campaign covered specific geographic areas to ensure focused efforts and maximum benefit. In the Al-Nasra neighborhood, teams targeted Abu Bakr Al-Razi and Al-Farazdaq streets, as well as the extension of the vital Al-Fath Street. In the Dana Al-Rams neighborhood, the initiative included Al-Harith Al-Tamimi and 7H streets. In the Al-Shubaili neighborhood, the focus was on four key areas: Al-Arqam Ibn Abi Al-Arqam Street, Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street, Ibrahim Ibn Muhammad Street, and Ayyub Street.
Community partnership towards a better environment
The Mayor of Qatif Governorate, Engineer Saleh bin Mohammed Al-Qarni, affirmed that this step is part of a comprehensive program to improve the urban landscape, emphasizing that the "compliance certificate" is a crucial regulatory tool for ensuring urban quality. Al-Qarni explained that property owners' commitment is not merely about adhering to regulations, but rather a genuine and effective partnership in the governorate's development. He added that this compliance positively impacts the quality of life and enhances the visual and investment value of neighborhoods. The municipality continues its field visits to provide technical and advisory support to beneficiaries, aiming to facilitate the certificate issuance process and ensure the initiative's objectives are achieved with the highest standards of efficiency.
