In-person classes suspended in Qassim to ensure student safety
The General Directorate of Education in the Qassim region announced the suspension of in-person classes for tomorrow, Thursday, 27 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH, in all schools across the region for students and school staff. The Directorate explained that this decision was based on reports from the National Center for Meteorology, which indicate forecasts of rain and unstable weather conditions that could affect the safety of students traveling to and from school.
The Qassim Education Department confirmed in its official statement that the educational process will not be interrupted, as distance learning will be implemented via the “My School” platform for all grade levels. This measure aims to ensure the continuity of the school day without disruption, while maintaining everyone's safety as a top priority.
“My School” platform: A robust digital infrastructure for distance learning
This rapid and seamless shift to distance learning is a testament to the success of the digital infrastructure that Saudi Arabia has invested in over the past years. The “Madrasati” platform is the cornerstone of the Kingdom’s e-learning system, having been significantly developed and expanded since the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming an effective tool that ensures the continuity of education in various emergency situations.
The platform provides a comprehensive, interactive learning environment, allowing students to attend virtual classes, interact with teachers, submit assignments, and take tests. It also enables parents to monitor their children's academic progress. Relying on "My School" in such circumstances underscores the readiness of the Saudi education sector and its ability to adapt to various challenges, whether health-related or climatic.
The importance of the decision and its impact on the educational system
The decision to suspend in-person classes reflects the high level of coordination between the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Meteorology, and other relevant authorities in the Kingdom. Such decisions are only made after a thorough review of weather data and forecasts, prioritizing the well-being and safety of the nation's children. Locally, this decision provides reassurance to families and protects them from potential road hazards during unstable weather conditions.
Regionally and internationally, this step highlights the Kingdom's ability to effectively manage crises, leveraging modern technology to ensure the continuity of education. This model serves as a prime example of how technology can be harnessed to serve a vital sector like education and guarantee its sustainability in the face of any emergency, thus reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a leader in the field of digital transformation in education.
