The Qaisariya Nights Festival 2026 was launched in the historic Qaisariya Market in Al-Ahsa, offering tourist routes and heritage and cultural events that revive the region’s rich past.

The “Qaysariyah Nights” events kicked off amidst a large public turnout

In a move aimed at reviving heritage and promoting cultural tourism, the Al-Ahsa Municipality launched the “Qaysariyah Nights 2026” festival at the historic Qaysariyah Market in Al-Hofuf. Since its launch, the festival has witnessed a large turnout of citizens, residents, and visitors who have flocked to enjoy the diverse heritage and cultural activities that will continue until the end of Ramadan. Organized tourist routes have been activated, specially designed to take visitors on a journey through time, connecting the present with the rich past of this region, which is brimming with cultural heritage.

Al-Qaysariyah Market: A window into Al-Ahsa's economic and social history

The Al-Qaysariyah Market, which hosts these events, is one of the oldest and most famous markets in the Arabian Peninsula, dating back nearly two centuries. More than just a commercial center, it was a vibrant social and cultural hub, and a vital economic artery connecting Al-Ahsa, the rich palm oasis, to the outside world via the historic port of Al-Uqair. The market is distinguished by its unique architectural design, with its covered passageways and closely packed shops that have retained their authentic character, making it a unique architectural icon. Despite suffering a devastating fire in 2001, its reconstruction, preserving its historical identity, has reaffirmed its immense value as an integral part of Al-Ahsa's memory and identity.

Integrated cultural experiences for visitors

The festival, organized by the Al-Ahsa Municipality in cooperation with the Governorate, the Eastern Province Development Authority, and the Heritage Commission, successfully transformed the market's arcades into a living stage, recounting stories from the region's history. Khaled Buwashel, the official spokesperson for the Al-Ahsa Municipality, explained that the events embody a vibrant continuation of historical memory and highlight the market's status as an architectural and cultural icon with deep-rooted social significance. The program includes interactive theatrical performances that recreate details of traditional commercial life, as well as art and craft workshops aimed at passing on manual skills to new generations to ensure their sustainability. Areas have also been designated for traditional games and family gatherings, reflecting the authentic character of Al-Ahsa society.

The importance of the festival within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030

The “Qaysariyah Nights” festival holds strategic importance as it aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on the tourism and culture sectors. By revitalizing historical sites and organizing high-quality events, Al-Ahsa contributes to strengthening its position as a global tourist destination, especially after its oasis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Locally, the festival stimulates the local economy by supporting artisans and small shop owners, while nationally it boosts domestic tourism and offers a unique cultural product that attracts visitors from across the Kingdom and the Gulf region, providing a tourism experience that combines entertainment and education.
