In a new step reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing its digital infrastructure and streamlining procedures for citizens and residents, the Public Security Directorate, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior, announced the launch of a package of high-quality electronic services through the Ministry of Interior's leading digital platform, "Absher." His Excellency the Director of Public Security, Lieutenant General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, inaugurated these services at the Directorate's headquarters in Riyadh, emphasizing the ongoing digital transformation across the Ministry's sectors.
Development background: Absher platform and Vision 2030
Launched over a decade ago, the Absher platform is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s e-government strategy and a key enabler of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals. Vision 2030 aims to build a vibrant society, a thriving economy, and an ambitious nation, with digital transformation playing a pivotal role. By providing hundreds of services across multiple sectors, including passports, traffic, and civil affairs, Absher has become an integral part of millions’ lives, significantly reducing the need to visit government offices, saving time and effort, and enhancing the efficiency and transparency of government performance.
Details of the new services and their importance
The new package of services comes in response to growing needs and covers vital areas related to community safety and security and the regulation of business activities. The launched services include the following:
- Security Camera Services: Through the “Absher Business” platform, business owners can now issue and view their “Security Camera Installation Compliance Certificate” electronically. This certificate is a regulatory requirement for many businesses, and facilitating its digital issuance supports business owners in complying with regulations while simultaneously enhancing security by ensuring that vital locations are covered by surveillance cameras.
- Air Rifle and Functional Weapons Services: New services include the ability to report lost or damaged air rifle licenses, as well as a "Functional Weapon Carrying Authorization" service via Absher Business. These services contribute to increased oversight and regulation of licensed firearms holders and provide a secure and efficient official channel for managing these licenses.
- Motorcycle and vehicle services: Services have been launched that allow for the authorization of motorcycle driving and the electronic transfer of ownership, facilitating buying and selling processes and reducing fraud. Additionally, the "Abandoned Vehicle Report" service has been added to the Absher Business platform, directly serving the business sector.
Expected impact at the local and regional levels
The launch of these services not only streamlines procedures but also has broader security and economic implications. Locally, this step contributes to increased customer satisfaction and a more conducive business environment by simplifying government processes. It also supports public security efforts in achieving effective oversight and enhancing community safety. Regionally, these initiatives solidify the Kingdom's position as a leader in digital transformation and e-government services, setting a benchmark for leveraging technology to serve society and achieve sustainable development.
