A strategic achievement within Vision 2030
The National Water Company, represented by its Western Sector, announced the completion of a series of vital water projects in southern Jeddah Governorate, at a total cost exceeding 152 million riyals. This achievement is a strategic step aimed at strengthening the water sector's infrastructure and improving the efficiency of services provided to citizens and residents, in line with the ambitious goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes improving quality of life and environmental sustainability.
General context and challenges of population growth
Jeddah, the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and one of the Kingdom's largest urban centers, is among the fastest-growing cities in terms of both population and urban development. This rapid expansion has placed significant pressure on existing infrastructure, particularly water and sewage networks. For decades, many new and outlying neighborhoods have relied on temporary solutions such as water tankers, posing logistical challenges and financial burdens on residents. This has created a pressing need for large-scale capital projects to expand water network coverage and ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of desalinated water.
Project details and their direct impact
The new projects encompassed three major contracts, including the construction of modern water networks extending over 250,000 linear meters, in addition to the implementation of main transmission lines exceeding 16,500 meters in length. These works directly targeted the Al-Qurainiyah and Al-Khumrah neighborhoods, which are experiencing increasing population density. These new networks are expected to serve more than 322,000 beneficiaries, bringing about a significant improvement in their daily lives by providing a continuous and reliable water supply, and supporting urban development in these promising areas.
These projects complement previous efforts that have already served other neighborhoods in southern Jeddah, such as Al-Ajawid East and West, Prince Fawaz Housing, Al-Alfiyah, Al-Huda, Al-Faisal, and Al-Fadilah. These earlier phases included the construction of a state-of-the-art pumping station with a capacity of 95,000 cubic meters per day, significantly enhancing the overall operational capacity of the system.
Applications are now open and a new phase has begun
With the infrastructure now complete, the National Water Company announced that it has begun accepting customer applications for home water service connections in the Al-Qurainiyah and Al-Khumrah neighborhoods. The company invited residents wishing to obtain the service to apply through its online portal (e.nwc.com.sa), emphasizing the need to attach the required documents to facilitate and expedite the connection process. Multiple communication channels are available through the unified number (8004411110) and its digital platforms to answer any inquiries.
Strategic importance and future impact
The impact of these projects extends beyond simply improving service levels; it also includes achieving water conservation by reducing network losses, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting sustainable development plans in Jeddah. Providing a comprehensive water infrastructure is a cornerstone for attracting investment and supporting residential and commercial projects, thus contributing to the desired economic growth and strengthening Jeddah's position as a leading global city.
