MSC is launching its logistics center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and naming a global ship after the Kingdom, confirming Saudi Arabia’s role as a global logistics hub within Vision 2030.

A strategic step to enhance the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub

In a move reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership and growing confidence in the Saudi investment environment, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam witnessed a significant event: the inauguration of the integrated logistics center of MEDLOG, the logistics arm of global shipping giant MSC. The event was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Ports Authority, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser. This coincided with a special ceremony in which MSC named one of its global container ships "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," a symbolic gesture underscoring the importance of the Saudi market on the global trade map.

Huge investments and advanced infrastructure

The new logistics center, with investments exceeding SAR 150 million and spanning 100,000 square meters, represents a significant addition to the infrastructure of King Abdulaziz Port. The center aims to provide advanced and smart logistics services, contributing to increased port capacity, enhanced operational efficiency, and support for trade and supply chains. This project is expected to play a vital role in facilitating import and export operations, reducing costs, and improving customer service, thereby strengthening the port's competitiveness both regionally and internationally.

General context: In line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030

This ambitious project is a practical implementation of the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, a key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. This strategy aims to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics hub connecting three continents (Asia, Europe, and Africa), leveraging its unique geographic location. Attracting investments from leading global companies like MSC underscores the success of the government's efforts to create an attractive investment environment and develop Saudi port infrastructure to meet the highest international standards.

The importance of the event and its expected impact

At the local level, the center will contribute to creating new job opportunities and supporting local content, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of supply chains for national industries. Regionally, this project solidifies the position of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam as a major trade gateway on the Arabian Gulf coast. Internationally, naming a global vessel after the Kingdom and inaugurating this center sends a powerful message to the international community about the pivotal role Saudi Arabia plays in stabilizing and facilitating global trade, and reflects strong confidence in the future of its economy.

Extended partnership and continuous achievements

This celebration coincides with the 30th anniversary of MSC's operations in the Kingdom, a journey marked by significant achievements and strategic partnerships that have contributed to supporting the national transport and logistics system. In his address, His Excellency Minister Al-Jasser expressed his pride in this accomplishment, emphasizing that it reflects the qualitative transformation within the sector and embodies a successful model of integration between the public and private sectors to achieve national goals. He added that this partnership symbolizes enduring relations and mutual trust, and supports the Kingdom's efforts to become a major player in the global maritime transport industry.
