On an exceptional night where patriotic sentiments blended with authentic art, the "Artist of the Arabs," Mohammed Abdu, renewed his commitment to the discerning Kuwaiti audience, inaugurating the first concert of this year's "February Kuwait" festival. This festival, considered one of the most prominent artistic events in the Gulf and the Arab world, coincides with Kuwait's National Day celebrations, transforming into an annual cultural event that brings together giants of Arab art.
The Artist of the Arabs... A History of Love with Kuwait
Mohammed Abdo's concert was more than just an ordinary musical evening; it was a testament to a decades-long, historic relationship between the "Voice of the Peninsula" and the Kuwaiti audience. The theater was filled with a state of complete harmony as the "Artist of the Arabs" performed two sets featuring 20 of his timeless masterpieces, under the direction of Maestro Hani Farhat. The selection ranged from classics to heartfelt songs such as "Al-Fajr Al-Baeed" (The Distant Dawn), "Bint Al-Nour" (Daughter of Light), "Al-Amakin" (The Places), and "Mudhila" (Amazing), in addition to "Ya Madour Al-Hayn" (O Seeker of Ease) and "Abi Minhu Al-Khabar" (I Want News from Him), amidst enthusiastic audience participation that transformed the theater into a massive choir.
A gesture of loyalty from Al-Ruwaished
In a heartwarming display of camaraderie reflecting the deep bonds between prominent figures in Gulf music, the backstage area of the concert witnessed a surprise visit from Abdullah Al-Ruwaished, the "Ambassador of Kuwaiti Song," to his friend Mohammed Abdu during rehearsals. This gesture was met with great appreciation from the "Artist of the Arabs," who told the media, "Al-Ruwaished came to greet me, and I thank him for this gesture," describing him as a symbol of generosity and genuine Kuwaiti values. Regarding why he hasn't performed any of Al-Ruwaished's songs, Abdu affirmed that Al-Ruwaished's work possesses a unique quality that only he can truly appreciate.
Ayed and Miami... a renewable youth energy
Continuing the success of the first week, the second concert featured a different atmosphere, brimming with enthusiasm and youthful energy, bringing together Saudi star Ayed Yousef and the Kuwaiti band Miami. Ayed performed a selection of his most beautiful songs, expressing his joy at singing in Kuwait, where an artist's success is considered a "certificate of credibility" everywhere. He concluded his set with the patriotic song "Ya Dar" (Oh Home).
The grand finale was with the “Kings of Fun,” the Miami band, led by Khaled Al-Randi and Meshaal Laili, who set the stage ablaze with their fast-paced, rhythmic songs that the audience knew by heart, confirming their status as one of the most important musical groups in the region in collaboration with Rotana.
Global organization and a packed schedule
Attendees praised the professional organization of Rotana Audio Visual Company, led by Salem Al-Hindi, who personally welcomed the stars. The concert featured world-class sound engineering, lighting, and stage design befitting Kuwait's cultural stature. The festival is set to continue into its second week with a concert by "The Falcon of Gulf Song," Rabeh Saqer, on February 22nd, followed by a trio performance featuring Nabeel Shuail, Mutrif Al-Mutrif, and Waleed Al-Shami on February 23rd, further solidifying the festival's position as a leading tourist and artistic destination in the region.
